Does anyone know if "Captain Kelly's Kitchen" off the Dropkick Murphys new album, is an Irish song? It says traditional in the liner notes but I'm not sure.

Yes it is a traditional song.

Captain Kelly's Kitchen is better known as 'Courting in the Kitchen'. --Seamasmac (talk) 16:46, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'm a Wiki-noobie, so this may be out of place but also seems like a decent relative point to start... There is a song titled "Henry Martin", I understand to be a trad-Scot tune that may have actually been the story that sparked the story of Robin Hood. One example of this tune is Figgy Duff's recording, which I have added note of from the results of Wiki-searching "Henry Martin". As said, so far as I know this is a Scot tune (therefor NOT an Irish ballad), but I'm trying to get something started on the tune here -- if someone reads this and can pick up the ball on it.

Section Suggestion[edit]

I'm keen to rearrange the songs below into more subcategories such as:

Love Songs - infidelity - broken token / love token - night visiting songs

Songs of Work

Songs of Emmigration

Songs of Sport

Does anybody have any other suggestions or objections? I'll give it a couple of days for replies.--Seamasmac (talk) 16:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and make these new sections so. --Seamasmac (talk) 22:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Italics vs. quotes[edit]

Since the songs aren't full-length works, wouldn't it be more appropriate to put their titles in quotes inside of italics? I didn't want to make such a big change without asking first if anyone had any objections. A dullard (talk) 23:47, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An Spailpín Fánach/ The Whistling Gypsy[edit]

I noticed that An Spailpín Fánach and the Whistling Gypsy are down in different places. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure they're the same song just translated.

Cynical and Skeptical (talk) 00:54, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, they are completely different in lyrics and melody and not related at all. The Spailpín Fánach was translated into English by Frank O'Connor as The Roving Journeyman. Hohenloh + 03:10, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced[edit]

All articles (including featured ones) are less than perfect. Are there particular (controversial?) edits you think fall short regarding references? It's not sufficient to just say 'could be improved'. RashersTierney (talk) 19:39, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Citition Needed tags have been removed by a disruptive editer. I replaced them twice in the last 24 hours so I cannot replace them again because of the three-revert rule.--MFIrelandTalk 20:01, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain why you think the template is necessary. What are the specific issues in dispute? It appears quite well referenced to me. RashersTierney (talk) 21:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not all the material is referenced and may be original research. The Citition Needed tags for the specific issues have been removed.--MFIrelandTalk 21:11, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to WP:DRIVEBY, "this tagging is strongly discouraged. The editor who adds the tag must address the issues on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies." Nothing of the sort was done by MFIreland.
Practically all the items in this list have been checked, re-checked and referenced by editors who are familiar with Irish music and songs, ever since this article was created. No item is in dispute. Also, there is no case of original research in the history of this article. If MFIreland wants to dispute any item on the list, then he/she should put forward his/her argument, on the particular item in question, on the talk page, and I and, I have no doubt, other editors, familiar with this topic, will be happy to reply and research this article and put his/her mind at rest. Hohenloh + 03:16, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OR, "To demonstrate that you are not adding original research, you must be able to cite reliable published sources that are both directly related to the topic of the article, and that directly support the material as presented." Not all the material in this article is referenced, I have pointed to specific issues twice above. Still needs additional citations for verification.--MFIrelandTalk 10:33, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
