Images[edit]

@Knowledgekid87:, first of all, thank you for making this wonderful list, it's a truly amazing article. I do have one problem with it, while it includes a large number of lists, it doesn't include any parameters for adding images as is typical for other numismatic articles. Adding these parameters will also let people see which images are or aren't already on Wikimedia Commons and could help illustrate the coins much better than only a single or two (2) images at the beginning of a section. --Donald Trung (talk) 23:21, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Donald Trung: If someone can find free images then I would be more than happy to include parameters for individual images. The main issue here is copyright as I tried uploaded Japanese coin images in the past but was told they aren't all free. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:09, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Knowledgekid87:, well, there are already a fair number of images on Wikimedia Commons and if the people who read this article see that some images of coins are missing they might scan their own coins and upload it to Wikimedia Commons. For example "Manchukuo yuan#Coins" only contains a single image as of now, but if people can see which coins are and aren't on Wikimedia Commons they can upload them.

Also if you find random images on the internet you can always e-mail the people who uploaded those images and e-mail the Wikimedia Commons OTRS team, then you can use them in this article, I've uploaded thousands of images this way, including a couple of hundred pre-1870 Japanese cash coins. Can you speak Japanese? Because Japan has a huge coin collecting craze and there are a lot of Japanese websites dedicated to coins so you could e-mail the owners of one of these websites to help get more images. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:00, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly my Japanese isn't good enough to communicate with people via email. I understand what you are saying about readers, and as it is I added the image parameters for the 1000 yen coin with what is available on the commons. In this case though, some of these patterns are very rare making it unlikely that the average person would own one. I could try emailing NGC or PCGS to see if they are willing to let their images be used here, and will also try reaching out to editors over the next few days. if I could even get one image up then I would add the parameters as it would be motivation for others to upload more images rather than have a gray "N/A" column. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 17:10, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Knowledgekid87:, understandable, I mostly add those parameters to see which ones are already on Wikimedia Commons, rare coins are usually scanned by auction houses, especially Heritage Auctions. These parameters are mostly for future editors and I completely understand your motivations to wait.
