Untitled[edit]

I started this article with the help of judoinfo.com lists. Added that starting white belts students start out mastering ukemi, for which I'm sure there is a list but did not find one. Also, don't know how the grappling lists are taught by rank. --Pereza 00:06, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Decided that this article works best as a simple Judo list as I remember when I studied it as a kid, and that a comprehensive list is best maintained at the article, Judo technique. Thinking of creating a Canon of Judo list. --Pereza 20:31, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why? I've never heard it phrased that way.
It's always Danzan Ryu Lists, not Lists of Danzan Ryu, for example.
Other than Lists of Danzan Ryu sounding awkward to me,
it's a perfect equivalent to Danzan Ryu Lists (:-??).

Are you happy with that title? Any permutation is acceptable, eg "List of judo techniques", "List of judo styles", etc. Feel free to change it again, if there is something more appropriate :)
There are also all sorts of "List of ..... topics" articles (see Lists of topics). Perhaps one of the judo list articles could be expanded into a full List of judo topics. --Quiddity 18:01, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of judo techniques[edit]

It's been a long time since these lists were started but I believe I did the original stub for list of judo techniques and fleshed that out with kanji, etcetera, as a way to provide a reference around various other MA & MMA articles at the time. The Kodokan list came later and was, I believe, focused on the Kodokan curriculum and progression, to reflect current orthodoxy rather than total historical context. If there were a merge, I think it might make more sense to somehow flag those techniques which are currently recognized by the Kodokan, including a section at the bottom where the logic of that and the specific history of the Kodokan changes over time might be noted. Many of the techniques on the general list have been adapted by other arts, for what it is worth. Not speaking for the Kodokan, I'm not sure why this (Kodokan) list was created or the logic of keeping it separate. Although the Kodokan is the origin and most "official" judo it is arguably not the only judo and not all historical techniques are still in use by Kodokan, as I understand it. Confusion about the 5 groups of Gokyo-no-waza[edit]

This article mentions that the Gokyo-no-waza is divided into five groups, but says nothing about the significance of one group versus another. Why is the Gokyo-no-waza divided into groups? What does it matter whether a throwing technique is in group #1 vs group #4? It would be helpful if the article clarified why there are different groups for the Gokyo-no-waza. --JHP (talk) 21:32, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
