Shouldn't it be "stadia?" 65.201.149.22 (talk) 14:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ordering[edit]

Is there a way to adjust the list so when you list them by team they are displayed in the order the team played in them rather than alphabetical?

First sort by "period(s)", then sort by "team", and it will sort alphabetically by team, but in the order they played at each stadium. Arsenikk (talk) 20:11, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed/Future Stadiums[edit]

Recently revised edit added DC United's proposed stadium that is currently involved in the legislative approval phase. Edit was removed, even though it's just as far along as NYCFC. 71.164.200.240 (talk) 23:17, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It seems very WP:CRYSTALBALL-ish to include stadiums in the list, and include things such as possible completion date and capacity, when the stadium is still at the conceptual stage, and there are no final plans that have been approved. Barryjjoyce (talk) 05:53, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stop bulk linking locations[edit]

Should BMO Field be listed as a soccer-specific stadium?[edit]

Survey: Should BMO Field be listed as a soccer-specific stadium?[edit]

Support or Oppose?

Since various users have been discussion this subject via editing (which is not the proper way to handle it) I have created this survey.

Please post your opinion here on whether you think BMO should be listed as a soccer-specific stadium or not. -NetWitz- 05:29, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Netwitz[reply]

  • Oppose: Okay, I changed this to 'No' because the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League have played there since 2016 and the 2016 Grey Cup was played at BMO Field. Based on that, how can BMO Field be called "Soccer Specific" if it is used for more than just soccer. Reverend Edward Brain, D.D. (talk) 04:46, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose MLSE built the field as a soccer-specific stadium, but they took one of their other properties, a Canadian Football League team, and added them as tenants and made some changes to accommodate them. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:51, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: I agree with the above two oppositions. Once you added the Toronto Argonauts as a permanent tenant, it just became a plain, old multi-purpose stadium. Didn't they add retractable seating to one of the endzones to accommodate the longer CFL configuration?

Future Stadium Renderings[edit]

@Walter Görlitz: None of the image files say that they are copyrighted. SportsFan007 (talk) 21:03, 15 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

File:LAFC Stadium Concept Art.jpg states it is and provides a flawed fair use rationale in the licensing section. Same for File:D.C. United Stadium Rendering.jpg and File:Minnesota United FC Stadium Concept Art.jpg. The latter, which uses a similar rationale as the two former, has been tagged to improve the FUR. It doesn't come right out and state that the image is copyrighted though. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:10, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Walter Görlitz: So is it ok the use the images? SportsFan007 (talk) 21:13, 15 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]
Fair use does not extend to simply displaying the stadiums. We would have to discuss the stadiums in greater detail that providing its name, the tenants (or owners), its location, capacity, construction dates and potential opening dates, etc. It makes sense to use it at the article, where it's discussed, and possibly at the team article, if it's discussed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:24, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Walter Görlitz: is that a yes or a no? SportsFan007 (talk) 21:44, 15 November 2017 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]
My reading of FUR is a flat-out no. You could read WP:FUR to see what it states, and ask on the talk page if it's not clear. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:46, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stadium Images[edit]

Can somebody please upload images of Audi Field and Banc of California Stadium? I will do so if I can find some, but help with this would be muchly obliged. Thank you in advance!!! SportsFan007 (talk) 02:11, 13 June 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

Newest stadium thumbnail[edit]

@Walter Görlitz: It doesn’t make sense to show stadium with most attendance, showing newest stadium is inline with other pages that list stadiums/arenas. SportsFan007 (talk) 16:17, 28 July 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

Of course it makes sense to show the stadium that most fans will attend. While it makes sense to show the newest image (assuming it's good and shows reasonable detail, whether interior or exterior) of a stadium, the reverse is the case with a list like this, where the most recognizable object should be shown. That's what done in many other lists, primarily films, actors, musicians and other subjects. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:26, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry Walter but I have to agree with User:SportsFan007. That how it is with the other pages: MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL. In fact, both Audi Field and Banc of California Stadium should be previewed. In the case of Banc of California Stadium, at least when there's a better picture of it. Roberto221 (talk) 02:42, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There’s no expectation of consistency, but if you insist on comparing apples to apples, look at similar articles written by editors interested in the same sport we see List of football stadiums in France, List of football stadiums in Germany, List of stadiums in Spain and List of football stadiums in England. None of these even have a "highlight" field. I’m entirely in favour of removing it and featuring none. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:19, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine an dandy but none of them are leagues in the United States (and Canada). Roberto221 (talk) 17:20, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I say: your examples are not this sport. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:12, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with User:SportsFan007. If any thumbnail is shown at the top, it should be of the newest stadium(s). The change was indeed bold, but based on this section lacks consensus and should be reverted. Rainclaw7 (talk) 04:25, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Former Stadiums Table[edit]

Can we move the former stadiums table to a page called Former MLS Stadiums? SportsFan007 (talk) 22:44, 3 October 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

I don't think it's necessary to create a new article for it. I assume you would want the stadiums from defunct teams to go there as well. What's your primary concern. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:36, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Walter Görlitz: My primary concern is that the page getting a bit overloaded with info. SportsFan007 (talk) 00:50, 4 October 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]
There are fewer than 14,000 characters of text present (and that figure is inflated because includes image names and footnote marks). That's 14 kB. With all of the table formatting code, the article is just under 40K. The article itself occupies a lot of space on-disc because the of the tables. Wikipedia:Article size has some opinions. If the article is less than 40 kB, "length alone does not justify division". This is why I asked why. The quantity of information is not overloading the article. With a good layout, it's also easy to navigate from the top of the page. It's not a particularly active page either, averaging 9,135 views a month, which isn't many in the grand scheme of things. [1] I compared it with sports league articles and a band article for comparison. I can see that the NFL stadium article split into current and former, but their article is bigger and they have many more teams. So I think we're still OK. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:25, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Walter Görlitz. Roberto221 (talk) 09:57, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Allianz Field[edit]

@Walter Görlitz: the 2018 season is over, TCF Bank Stadium is no longer used for MLS, Minnesota United FC start playing at Allianz Field when the new season begins. SportsFan007 (talk) 01:20, 15 December 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]

Fine. You can remove TCF Bank Stadium from the current.
However Allianz Field is not open so it's misleading to state it's a current stadium. Can something go wrong with construction that would prevent it from opening? Could there be some sort of act that would prevent it from ever being used? The answer to both is, yes, but it's highly unlikely. Since it is not yet in-use, we cannot state it is. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:23, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Walter Görlitz: Fair enough, thank you!!! SportsFan007 (talk) 01:37, 15 December 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007[reply]
Sorry for not being more clear in my edit summaries! Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:54, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Walter. Even though the season is over, the stadium is still not ready for occupancy, they still have to pass inspections. So technically TCF Bank stadium is their current home.

Other stadiums section[edit]

This section needs severe updating. One-off uses, secondary fields that haven't been used in five or more years, and just plain outdated info make this section practically useless. I'm tempted to just delete it outright, but for now I'm going to comment it out instead. oknazevad (talk) 21:07, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MLS stadium images[edit]

Hi,

User:SounderBruce reverted some images of the stadiums posted by User:Ayomaju. His reasoning was that they were old and of lower quality. The vast majority of images on this page are of interior images and I think that they should be added:

  • DRV PNK Stadium with the new "Messi" seats.

  • Mercedez-Benz Stadium shown in its soccer configuration.

  • Stade Saputo as part of its post expansion.

  • Toyota Stadium, at least an interior shot if nothing else.

  • Yankee Stadium in a wider soccer configuration.

These images may be old but so are the other images on this page and nothing has changed about the configurations. I'm not sure what is meant by "quality". Roberto221 (talk) 00:20, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes.. That was exactly the reasons why I changed the images... Ayomaju (talk) 01:29, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Consider finding higher-quality images first. There's probably some good interior shots available from A View from My Seat that can be ported over to Commons due to the compatible licensing. I'm not opposed to interior shots in general, but using a 2007 picture for Pizza Hut Park and a non-MLS image for Yankee Stadium is not acceptable. SounderBruce 03:40, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SounderBruce: What's the procedure in using that? Do I copy them over to my PC and then upload on Commons? What do I use as a "source" and "author"? I've uploaded pictures on Commons of churches and cathedrals but I took them.

I've been hoping someone would change the picture for Globe Life Field to an interior shot and I found one on A View from My Seat that is perfect to swap along with the MLS stadiums.

Snapdragon Stadium[edit]

@Sbb618: and whoever is the unnamed user,

Most of the NFL stadiums are designed to adhere to FIFA standards as soccer stadiums. But that doesn't make them soccer-specific stadiums. Look at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. See any soccer-specific stadiums? If anything, it is a multi-purpose stadium.
