List purpose[edit]

This article is criticized in an AfD for being indiscriminant, and rightly so in my opinion. I take this as an opportunity to set the article on the right track in an attempt to salvage it. I propose restating its purpose as:

List of Minnesota companies includes notable companies that are, or once were, headquartered in Minnesota.

The significant change here is from listing all to listing the notable companies. The measure for notability that I propose is that the company must have its own Wikipedia article. That is, no redlinks allowed. I will jump start this discussion by making the above definition of purpose change now, as time is of the essence. Merged or acquired?[edit]

What is the policy on this type of page for a company that was merged or acquired by another company? I expected to see "Green Giant" here, but didn't find it. Was this because Green Giant is now owned by General Mills? 209.131.227.182 (talk) 03:05, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think such a list would be too long and not very useful. Mergers and acquisitions have been going on for a long time. Where a company has recently been acquired or merged (or its assets sold), a redirect to the acquiring/surviving entity should suffice to get readers to the proper place. And where there is an actual article on a no-longer extant company (cf. Green Giant), that serves the same purpose. Kablammo (talk) 16:16, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
