Why is LaBron James listed as having won 4 Championship rings when his record indicates he has only 3? Definitely not in a league of being the GOAT. Length of list[edit]

What was the criteria for how long this list should be? Top 20? 5 championships won? Thanks --ChaChaFut (talk) 23:24, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was intended to list all players with five or more NBA championship rings. Five seemed like a reasonable cutoff at the time, and still does IMO. So, even if the number of players with six or more championship rings reaches 20 or more, I think we'll continue to display the set of players with five. — Myasuda (talk) 00:56, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right now its 25 players who won more than 5 championships. If the criteria is lowered to 4, there will be 10 additional players in the list. I think it would be nice to include those with 4 championships, since some of them (Salley and Saul) are mentioned in the lead prose. — MT (talk) 14:35, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind extending the list to players who won four championships, but I don't care at all for the integration of the trivia into the lede. Quite frankly, I don't think that this sort of trivia belongs in this article at all, but I tolerated it as long as it was relegated to a separate section. According to MOS:TRIVIA, a trivia section is discouraged. Anyway, I've removed most of the trivia info that are irrelevant to the article. The only trivia info left are the players who won the championships with three different teams and the players who won consecutive championships with two different teams. Well these two are the most relevant ones, compared to the other ridiculous trivia info that I've removed (records outside Celtics dynasty and winning in three different decades). I still think that these two are not only related to the championships, but they are related to players who won a lot of championships, which is what this article about. These rare feats made those four players (Salley, Horry, Kerr, Saul) unique from the other players on the list. It is trivia, but you have pruned it down to what I can accept as a tolerable state. My primary concern is that its presence will be a nucleation point for the insertion of trivia of the sort you've just removed. By retaining these sorts of loosely related championship factoids, it creates a fuzzy and subjective boundary as to what is acceptable and what isn't in this article. I guess I understand your concern, it does open a door for other editors to add more irrelevant trivial info like before. I've trim down the details more so that the emphasize goes to the second paragraph about players who won more championships. Seasons Played[edit]

This is a bit misleading because the first season for each player is listed as the calendar year in which their first season began. However, if a player won a championship in his rookie season, then that would be listed as a year later. So I propose that the year listed for each debut season be the latter calendar year of the NBA season.Hoops gza (talk) 13:32, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My counter-proposal would be to be to remove the From and Until columns, which were not added until October of this year. They don't add much to this article (career tenure is better measured by the Seasons Played column), and in the case of a player such as Bob Cousy (who, several years after retiring, played a few games as a player coach) they can be confusing to the uninformed reader. — Myasuda (talk) 15:30, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whichever is correct, his name is garbled and reads as: [[Isiaha 1 {{{last}}}|Isiaha 1 {{{last}}}]]* and should be fixed by someone who knows how.

Foreign born players[edit]

I don't care much for the trivia section, but if it's retained then it needs a better explanation of what foreign-born is. Does this mean non-US born or, since the NBA has had several Canadian teams, does it mean non-US and non-Canadian born? Was Russell the first black coach in North American professional sports?[edit]

Hello. This is my first time trying this, so please forgive me if I screw something up. It's more of a question that may lead to a change being required. Near the top of the article(1st paragraph I think) it is stated in reference to Russell that "he was the first black coach in North American professional sports". Weren't there black coaches in other professional negro league sports like baseball for instance? They began in the 1870s and they had black coaches as far as I know. Lead[edit]

The lead is quite long, is not well-written, simply restates some of the content of the list, and includes details that fall outside the scope of the article. For example, it includes the early history of the NBA, the fact that championship winners sometimes receive championship watches instead of rings, and the question of whether the number of championships is a true measure of a player's greatness.

None of this needs to be in the article. The article is supposed to be a list. I have a WP:BOLD proposal to change the lead so that it simply says: "The following is a list of National Basketball Association (NBA) players who won the most championships as players. Boston Celtics center Bill Russell holds the record for the most NBA championships won with 11 titles during his 13-year playing career". Thoughts?
