Scope[edit]

Is there a list of "prominent or well-known Hawaiians" that includes persons who are not native-Hawaiians? My Boxing Ring (talk) 22:08, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Funny you should ask, because I was going to ask whether this really was a list of people who are ethnically Hawaiian or just born and raised in Hawaii. I ask because I'm pretty sure some of these people are Chinese. I think Keanu Reeves is half white and half asian. I don't think this list is very choherent. Everyone is from from Hawaii and "ethnic" in the American sense of the term, but I don't think they are all ethnic Hawaiians, are they?Chrisrus (talk) 03:20, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also in doubt about some of these people. If there are people here who do not have any Hawaiian ancestry, they should not be included. (the article on Keanu Reeves states that his father is Hawaiian-Chinese, but there's no source so it can't be verified) —Kal (talk) 21:45, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I read your message on Viriditas' talk page, Chrisrus, and have some thoughts to offer. I have always considered the term "Native Hawaiian" to mean a person who has Hawaiian blood and Hawaiian ancestry; thus, a person who is ethnically Hawaiian. The article on Native Hawaiians agrees, defining "Native Hawaiians" as "the indigenous Polynesian people of the Hawaiian Islands or their descendants." Therefore, I think the logical scope of this list is to include only those people who have Hawaiian ancestry. —Kal (talk) 04:31, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
