While it may have some relevance, it still seems to be over-generalized in its name. Why not move / rename it to List of Influential Nigerians? The current name has me expecting a census dump of all citizens in the country. It's just too general of a topic title, in my opinion. --Roy Laurie 02:17, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Roy Laurie. I was half expecting to click on this and to find a huge page with millions of people listed. Debaser23 09:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Nigerians?[edit]

It seems that several on this list were neither born in Nigeria, nor moved to Nigeria - some may have had Nigerian parents, but that isn't always the case either. gnomelock 19:00, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too many redlinks[edit]

There are quite a few redlinks on this list, normally lists like this only list people that already have existing articles.. most if not all of the redlinks should be removed until and unless someone decides to create the article at which point it may be re-added. -- œ 05:46, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of names[edit]

Lists of names in this article should be sourced in accordance with WP:BLP. As there is no way of constantly maintaining linked articles, this applies to names which have a Wikipedia article as well as those that do not. Any name listed with no verifiable citations should be removed. Refer to WP:NLIST for guidance. (talk) 07:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The generally accepted consenus (established via how lists have been handled so far) is that if a person has a well-sourced standing Wikipedia article, and the person belongs to the respective group of people, then that person is eligible for inclusion into that respective list. This is evident by looking at all the Lists of People by Nationality found here and here. Using Albania as an example, Wikipedia's content guideline for stand-alone lists of people stipulates that "the criteria for identifying as an Albanian does not solely depend upon the official citizenship laws of that country - a person could be related to the place by birth, residency, parentage, or by his or her personal admission, considers himself or herself to be an Albanian at heart." WP:NLIST is about lists contained within articles. WP:NLIST's requirement for a "a reliable source attesting to the fact that the named person is a member of the listed group" evidently is for those entries which do not have Wikipedia articles, as entries with articles already have (or should have) such reliable sources required by WP:NLIST.
The real issue with any List of People is how to determine the nationality / citizenship of a person. Wikipedia's content guideline for stand-alone-lists has answered this. Amsaim (talk) 08:38, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
