Name of the article[edit]

The name of the article is currently List of sycamore diseases. Since sycamore is an ambiguous common name (Acer pseudoplatanus to us Brits), this is not always helpful. It is also not clear whether it is diseases of Platanus occidentalis or all Platanus. I suggest clarification and a rename. Imc 10:27, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point, and I'm open to any suggestions. The other common name for Platanus species is planes. However, I think that renaming the article List of plane diseases would cause even more confusion. Seriously though, the first line of the article does mention that the article is about sycamores (Platanus spp) and the link takes you to the article on the genus Platanus. I really would prefer not to replace the common name with the scientific name in the title, but perhaps the solution would be to include it in the title: List of sycamore (Platanus spp) diseases Somanypeople 20:54, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is fair to say that List of sycamore (Platanus spp) diseases would leave most British people confused. The acer/sycamore is very common here, it could be the most common tree in many urban areas, and it's always known as the sycamore. Personally I'd prefer just Platanus in the article. Another alternative would be to have both common names List of Platanus (sycamore / plane) diseases, but it all starts to look very unwieldy then. Imc 21:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
