Comparison of SFTP Clients[edit]

To me the existing comparison tables do not look like an appropriate entry for SFTP-related encyklopedic article. The existing comparison criteria have in fact has nothing to do with SFTP. Such comparison would be useful only for article about file transfers is general. Also, it is IMHO useless duplication of Comparison of FTP clients. --Prikryl 08:38, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My ides would be to compare the clients using SFTP-specific criteria like:

  • Highest supported SFTP version
  • Supported features of SFTP
    • Transfer resuming.
    • Text-mode transfers.
    • Ability to change file attributes (permissions, owner, group).
    • etc.
  • (optionally) Supported features of SSH
    • SSH versions
    • Encryption algorithms
    • etc.

Ideas and opinions are welcome.

Agree. Removing current comparison for now. -- Karnesky 21:34, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

FireFTP doesn't support SFTP. It only supports FTPS

Since noone has implemented the ideas outlined above, I've converted the article to a redirect to Comparison of FTP clients. If someone wants to actually create an article containing more than the Secure FTP column in Comparison of FTP clients#Protocol support, the old text of this article is still in the history. While I understand this may have looked like the best solution, I would like to note that this is a misleading redirect. SFTP, the "SSH File Transfer Protocol," is not related to FTP (...) Also, the title is 'List of', rather than 'Comparison of', therefore I am afraid the 2006 version of this article was much better than this redirect, as the content matched not only the type of programs (which it does not quite now), it also matched the type of the article. I'd like to suggest reverting and updating. Krymzon (talk) 22:04, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
