Ideas for table[edit]

  • Since all the locos were built at Eastleigh, this column could be deleted.  Done
  • Non-preserved locos do not give an indication of their status. It is usually possible to discover a 'scrapping' date.
Whether this should go in a new column or not, I don't know.
     Done
  • Months/years should not be wikilinked  Done
  • Date-based columns might look better if all had the same format:
with column centred, could force year onto line below month (possibly using <BR>)
    .  Done
  • Location links could be embedded (NB - several missing) - NB a page for Southall Railway Centre exists, but the two MNs are in the adjacent loco sheds; on the same site, but in the care of a different group.  Done

Split table?[edit]

Viewed on a small screen (such as my 1024x768 laptop) this table doesn't look good. I think it would be beneficial to create a second table, just for the preserved engines, showing their (number, name), current location, status and post-BR history. The main table would then be simplified to include one notes column (rather than 3). Also, on a small screen, the date columns would look better with the month stacked over the year, but I haven't worked out how to force this yet.

Belgian Marine[edit]

Does anyone know what the fate of this company was? It's the only Merchant Navy name I could not trace. All the others I've managed to trace through mergers and liquidations, and have wikilinked their current or last owning company. --Bulleid Pacific (talk) 20:07, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, I was about to ask the same question (ten years later). I had assumed it might be an anglicized version of Compagnie Maritime Belge but I don't think that's right now as they use the Belgian flag on the name plate [1] - it appears to be the Belgian flag with a crowned lion rampant on it.
