Greta Van Susteren broadcaster and news analyst[edit]

Just a FYI, shes taking a beating in the commentaries because she is featuring the Aruba kidnapping story relentlessly. And getting a 60% jump in her ratings.... I'm not recommending putting analyst in quotes, but....

I'm not recommending putting analyst in quotes, but..... Oh, and she's an attorney, isn't she. What kind of practice was it?Kyle Andrew Brown 22:04, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Former Students who never graduated??[edit]

So I'd like to include Fred Foster on here, the founder of Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC). He went to the UW, but never finished his degree due to his company taking off. Any suggestions on what to title the section? Ellieilluminate 17:28, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are others listed among alumni who did not complete their degrees. John Muir, for one. 69.129.128.19 15:36, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lindbergh[edit]

I just removed this from the Madison, Wisconsin page:

Charles A. Lindbergh entered a mechanical engineering program at the University of Wisconsin in 1920, did poorly, and dropped out to become a barnstormer.

If it's true, it's more detailed than what's on this list. Joshuardavis 01:51, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

System or campus?[edit]

I'm confused... is this a list of List of University of Wisconsin people or only "notable people associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison" campus? Thanks! Sulfur 02:46, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved this article to List of University of Wisconsin-Madison people. Miaers 21:25, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted to Re-include Kevin Barret[edit]

Kevin Barret is a notable figure, and he demonstrates something about the extent and also the limits of free speech and diversity of enquiry of this campus; his time here is at least a footnote in the history of UW-Madison. Since there are dead or retired people listed here on the basis of their notability, rather than their currency, the precedent seems clear. Jørgen Mads Clausen[edit]

I consider putting him on - is he sufficiently notable? Medico80 17:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:John Atanasoff.gif[edit]

Image:John Atanasoff.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Breaking Out the Athletics Section[edit]

I would like to propose breaking out the athletics section into its own page. If this happens, that page can be broken down by sport. Madmaxmarchhare (talk) 18:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Laura Danly[edit]

Laura Danly should be added to this list.

Notable faculty and staff[edit]

This section is getting long and we should consider breaking it up by discipline: Science and technology, social sciences, history etc. I *might* do this sometime if there are no objections. PDCook (talk) 21:06, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and organization[edit]

I have added the following comment line to the top of the article:

"People on this list should have their own Wikipedia page - please do not add redlinks. Keep the lists alphabetized."

Generally these sorts of lists are made of people who are notable enough to have their own Wikipedia pages. Also, I will be going through this list and alphabetizing the entries. If anyone objects, remove the comment or discuss it here. PDCook (talk) 14:02, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, alphabetization would be good. Charlie Gorichanaz (talk) 21:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citations...[edit]

Barely any of these are attributed to anything. I was curious when "Deadmau5" attended UW, but his Wikipedia page doesn't mention Wisconsin...but at any rate, the list should be attributed here. Charlie Gorichanaz (talk) 21:56, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional alumni[edit]

I know there have to be more fictional characters that wore the Cardinal and White. I've listed three cartoon characters, the protagonist of a classic fantasy novel, and a TV character; but there have to have been many more dozens that I don't know about because I'm at UW-M (in the computer lab, at the moment). --Orange Mike | Talk 23:45, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
