Yucatán Cenotes[edit]

I need to voice my concerns about the cenotes on the Yucatán peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico.

The cenotes are surface entries into the largest underwater cave system in the world.

This cave system is now under threat of collapse and unspeakable damage by the Mexican government by construction of a railway system right on top of this cave system all the way from Cancun to Tulum. The tren maya project has already collapsed several previously unknown caves and movement of the train to 2.5 miles inland will result in the train running directly over more of the cenotes and cave systems. The impact of a cave in would be devastating to the ancient archaeological sites, wildlife conservation reefs and ocean life as we know it, not to mention the threat to divers within the cave systems.

Please look into this issue. 2600:100A:B01D:FC7A:D4A3:9519:476D:9374 (talk) 18:53, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
