Ambition and feasibility[edit]

One has to admire, goggle even, at the sheer ambition of this article. It aims to list arstistic works with Oriental influences in the fields of music, literature and art.

Just looking at the List of Orientalist artists which currently lists some 500 names, most of which have articles on Wikipedia, and each named artist has a list of some 10 -20 paintings or illustrations in their entry (a small representative sample of their total oeuvre). Not only that, many of these artists were also authors and illustrators who produced works of literature as well as paintings and engravings. Now, by my reckoning, that gives rise to some 5,000 - 10,000 artworks that could be listed here.

And, that only takes are of the visual artists. There are still the composers, musicians, dramatists, film-makers, comic book producers, performing artists, etc to consider. The potential scope of this article, if by any remote chance, it even gets close to fulfilling its ambition, is virtually infinite.

Of course, I hear you saying, this article should only list notable works or the most important works, but who gets to decide what is notable or important. Most the paintings that have been listed in the Orientalist artists pages, are hanging in museums or important private collections, so by that score, it would be very difficult to separate them or rank them in terms of notability.
