Broad-concept article[edit]

IMO it is not a good idea to use wikipedia slang unknown to the world in article titles. (WTF is "set index" one would ask). IMO the article is better to be framed as a Wikipedia:Broad-concept article and title is something like Sejm (assembly). Accordingly, the structure of tehe lede must be shifted from "dab-like" to genereic article, actually starting with a dicdef. Staszek Lem (talk) 22:38, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Labeling this page as a set index is meant as a temporary solution (because it's clearly not a disambiguation page). — Kpalion(talk) 23:56, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 14 December 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus to move away from the current title; such a move had greater support among editors, and the while consensus is not determined by counting votes the arguments in opposition were not based in policy.

No consensus on which title to use, and so per WP:NOGOODOPTIONS I am moving it to List of assemblies called Sejm, as it seems there is a slight preference for it.

Editors who disagree with this choice may open a new RM at any time. (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 19:12, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sejm (set index)List of meetings called Sejm – Far better title than whatever this is, all of the items listed here are some form of meeting, except for Seym River, which can just be a hatnote on Sejm. We could alternatively do List of assemblies called Sejm (or replace "called" with "named"). Queen of Hearts ❤️ (no relation) 20:37, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
is there a reason this is not at Sejm (disambiguation)blindlynx 23:02, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:SETNOTDAB for an explanation of the difference between a set index and a disambiguation page. — Kpalion(talk) 14:33, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. We could just as well move every other disambiguation or set-index page to "List of things called X". But we won't. — Kpalion(talk) 10:33, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Proposed title is significanctly more WP:NATURAL than the current one. Slight preference for "assemblies" over "meetings" but either is preferable to the status quo. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 16:13, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm afraid you've completely misread what WP:Natural is about. — Kpalion(talk) 00:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's admittedly not in the section of WP:AT that WP:NATURAL actually links to, but if you go to the actual list of the titling criteria, you'll see that naturalness is defined as [a title that] readers are likely to look or search for and that editors would naturally use – and I doubt anyone is likely to use a title with an unclear DAB like "(set index)" to try to search for this page's content. The title does not indicate "this is a set index of Sejm assemblies" but instead indicates "the name of this set index is Sejm, and we're disambiguating it to distinguish from other topics called Sejm".
Additionally, WP:NATURAL links to a section within WP:TITLEDAB which holds that parenthetical disambiguation is only recommended when none of the other solutions lead to an optimal title. This is in line with general titling practices, where parentheses are consistently dispreferred when there's an alternative title that aptly conveys the article's subject without using them. I haven't seen any argument to indicate that the proposed title has the kind of flaws that would make it a less optimal title than the parenthetically disambiguated one. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 16:57, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would you also support moving Parliament (disambiguation) to List of assemblies called Parliament or Congress (disambiguation) to List of assemblies called Congress? The arguments you give would be equally valid. "Disambiguation" is just as obscure a term (outside of internal Wikipedia usage) as "set index" is. And the distinction between a set index and a disambiguation page is not my idea; it only follows Wikipedia guidlelines. — Kpalion(talk) 13:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support some change. Agree with ModernDayTrilobite. The parenthetical "set index" is not helpful or clear to regular readers of Wikipedia. Natg 19 (talk) 18:19, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: Final relist, just to clear out whether this should be moved; currently leaning towards that. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 10:01, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
