Donald Trump Received Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986-Truth!

Summary of eRumor: President Trump was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986 with the likes of Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali. The Truth: It’s true that Donald Trump was presented the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986 by the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation. The New York Times reported at the time that 80 people, including Donald Trump, were awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor at a ceremony held on Ellis Island in October 1986:

The medals will be presented to the recipients, all either naturalized or native Americans, at a ceremony Oct. 27 on Ellis Island. That is the day before the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, the final event of the 1986 Liberty Centennial observances.

The announcement of the awards was made at a news conference in a midtown restaurant by the president of the foundation, William F. May, and the chairman of the New York Statue of Liberty Centennial Commission, William D. Fugazy.

Honorary medals will also be presented to John Cardinal O’Connor; Lee A. Iacocca, chairman of the foundation, and Mr. May. Reaction by Koch

Mr. Fugazy said the medal was thought up in June, after the foundation’s naming of 12 naturalized Americans for the Medal of Liberty had produced an outcry. Critics of the award noted then that not even such major ethnic groups as the Irish, Italians and Poles were represented among the 12.

1986 was the first year that the Ellis Island Medal of Honor was presented. Today, the award is administered by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), which describes the award as such:

Recent Left Leaning fact checkers are claiming that there was a member of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award Commitee named "Cocoa" stated that Trump did not receive the award for what the award was created for celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity but instead, for having German heritage and being a businessman, which as anyone can see doesn't make a whole lot of sense that he would receive an award with Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali for something as frivolous as that. The Left leaning editors are attempting to strip credit for accomplishments of President Trump to further their own agenda. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor embody the spirit of America in their celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity. Nobel nominations

• This is getting ridiculous. Four IPs have tried to add this six times and all have refused to discuss. Nominees are not announced or verified by the Nobel Foundations until 50 years have passed.[3] There have been instances of fraudulent nominations for Trump. • I would probably oppose mentioning this on the ground that a mere nomination is not an "honor or award" — but I would certainly oppose mentioning this without vital context, including that the nomination criteria is extremely loose (any professor or legislator anywhere in the world is entitled to make a nomination); that several of the repeated nominations came from, among others, a random far-right Norwegian MP; and a Japanese government nomination was made at the specific request of the Trump White House, etc. Neutrality^talk 01:10, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Impeachment

Grammy Award claim

I removed the entry that said, "Grammy for supporting role in Kanye West's Life of Pablo". First of all, Kanye West's album The Life of Pablo and songs from it were nominated for Grammys, but didn't win any. (See 59th Annual Grammy Awards.) Second, there is no such thing as a Grammy for "supporting role"; if Trump had won a Grammy, it would have been in a specific category. Third, Donald Trump didn't even appear as any kind of guest performer or other collaborator on the album The Life of Pablo. Fourth, there was a musician on the album named Nico Segal, who used to go by the stage name "Donnie Trumpet", and who shared in one of the nominations associated with the album (as one of the songwriters of "Ultralight Beam", nominated for Best Rap Song). Maybe that's who the editor was thinking of? But even "Donnie Trumpet" did not win a Grammy that year; he was only nominated for one. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:03, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

I've moving this to the talk page, as it seems to have been an announcement with no follow-through. A local hockey team, Brampton Beast, has played single games with Star Wars and Paw Patrol-branded jerseys, I presume that this is no different.
