BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER - SIMON & GARFUNKEL[edit]

It spent 33 UK Weeks at No.1 - not 41. It used to be given 41 No.1 Weeks as there was a UK Postal Strike from W/E 6th February to W/E 27th March 1971. No 'Official', (Record Retailer), Album Charts were compiled during those 8 Weeks. So, the Chart of W/E 30th January 1971 used to be repeated for those 8 Weeks. As the Simon & Garfunkel Album was No.1 on W/E 30th January, it was given an extra 8 Weeks at No.1. However, about 9 Years ago, it was decided to use the 'Melody Maker' Album Chart for the missing 8 Weeks. As their Album Charts were compiled during the 8 Weeks. (As were the New Musical Express Album Charts). 'Melody Maker' had 'All Things Must Pass', by George Harrison, at No.1 for those 8 Weeks - so his Album became an 8 Week No.1 in 'Official' Chart History. Bridge Over Troubled Water did not spend 41 Weeks at No.1, in the UK. That was its old total. For several years it has been given 33 No.1 Weeks. The other 8 Weeks being taken by 'All Things Must Pass' by George Harrison. The Best Sellers of the 1970's List, is not right, either. Your List is simply the Best Selling 1970's Albums, with their Sales from later Decades added in. It is not the same as the List that was published in early 1980 of the Sales of UK Albums within the 1970's. Wikipedia is never consistent. Your Best Selling UK Albums of the 1980's, 1990's etc. Lists are for Sales inside those Decades only. Which is correct. With the 1970's, you have added later Decades Sales in too. Had you done the same for the 1980's, 'Greatest Hits' by Queen, would rise from 4th to 1st place, & for the 1990's 'Gold', by ABBA, would rise from 9th to 1st place. 10:00, 15 April 2013 (UTC)


The List in the Article is not the Best Selling UK Albums of The 1970's. It is a List of the Best Selling UK Albums that were released in the 1970's.

That is not the same thing at all - as that List adds in the Sales of 1970's Albums from the 1980's etc. too.

For example, if that were done for the 1990's, then 'Gold' by ABBA, would not be 9th for that Decade, it would be 1st, as its 2000 to 2012 Sales have caused it to outsell the 8 Albums above it, in the 1990's Top 10.

The real Top 20 UK Albums of The 1970's, were for Albums that sold between 1970 & 1979 - only.

The contributor above is correct. I have the list of the Top 50 of the decade as published by BMRB and will change the article in due course – for one thing, the new version will actually have a citation, whereas the current version has no verifiable citations at all. 'Bat Out Of Hell' -- 4 Weeks In The UK Top 10 - Not 2[edit]

You give Meat Loaf's 'Bat Out of Hell' 2 Weeks in the UK Top 10. (Both in 1981). It actually went on to have 2 further UK Top 10 Weeks. They were in the Charts of W/E 13th April 2013 and W/E 20th April 2013. Both were No.9 Positions. The same Peak, that it had reached, in the W/E 22nd August 1981 Chart.
