A gallery of Thumbnail Images?[edit]

Wonder if it might be nice to have a gallery of thumbnail images that form a graphical guide to the species. Shyamal 08:39, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That would be a good idea. But the page will be very heavy. Right now ofcourse there are hardly any pics. But it will grow. What about splitting this page into a number of gallery pages eg Indian_nymphalidae ?

Yes indeed, they would be split and it could even split like a typical key based identification system. But i wonder if that might perhaps have to go into wikibooks. there are already some field guide stubs out there for India. Shyamal 03:28, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

South Asia too large[edit]

Can we really say that this list is applicable for the entire South Asia?? I think it would be fair to say that each region/country would have its own lists of butterflies. Ofcourse the point at which one can atomise a region is very difficult to judge. Tommorow a person might come along and decide that list of the entire world sould be put in one place. Maybe it would be more realistic to have a page called "List of butterflies of South Asia" within that a list of all the regions/countries in the South Asian region. I'm not an expert on butterflies, but I'm not terribly fond of the term South Asia because it's a fairly large, amorphous area that may or may not include a lot of countries. I prefer the term Indian subcontinent which has definite boundaries. Most of the article changes and article moves from "the Indian subcontinent" to "the South Asia" were done by one user, apparently without consultation or direction from others. There's a bit of a discussion on these changes on Wikiproject India if you're interested. --NormanEinstein 16:47, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Butterflies from Nepal by Mr. Colin Smith, an imminent (sic) lepidopterologist, has been studying butterflies of Nepal for the last 37 years. His book "Butterflies of Nepal" will contain 650 species in the next edition. Currently, he is associated with Kathmandu University. There were several links to photographer's galleries. These are hardly helpful in the article development. As a list of species within the region, the main links should be those that have information rather than photographs unless they are accompanied by distribution and taxonomic information. Compare for instance LepIndex and Markku Savela's site. Photographers are of course welcome to contribute their images to wikimedia commons and add thumb images.
