Stevie Wonder[edit]

can someone explain why Stevie Wonder is not a child music prodigy? Budoski2187 (talk) 14:47, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

first sentence of the article makes this clear. "A child prodigy is defined in psychology research literature as a person under the age of ten who produces meaningful output in some domain to the level of an adult expert performer".--Smerus (talk) 15:08, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are multiple entries aged 10, so I would suggest changing the wording to “aged 10 and under” or not using such a strict definition as I think many would consider an 11y/o who showed skill equal to adult professionals as a “child prodigy” Budoski2187 (talk) 00:43, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Limited or biased?[edit]

For whatever reasons, this list is woefully inadequate -- really little more than a stub. there have been prodigies on other instruments besides piano and violin -- winds, brass, percussion -- the have been prodigies in other genres than classical (notably jazz), and there seems to be a dearth of female musicians on the list.

Would suggest that the definition of "child prodigy" being applied here is dated, and unresaonbly restricted. A more current difinition:

"Child prodigies are defined as those individuals who reach a professional level of achievement in a culturally relevant domain before the age of 10 or adolescence."

Why isn't Gauss in the list? Aminabzz (talk) 22:01, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List criteria[edit]

I have reverted recent additions to the list for failing to meet the criteria. Quoting old discussions of this talk page:

"This article is headed by a statement, supported by three citations: "A child prodigy is defined in psychology research literature as a person under the age of ten who produces meaningful output in some domain to the level of an adult expert performer." Those who do not meet this definition do not belong on this page (and even less so if they do not merit a WP article and are evalauated as non-notable)." Gor1995 𝄞 16:50, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
