Links[edit]

The page South Island seems to link to this page, by the way. It's in the People section a couple of times. 2406:E007:98EC:1:CCED:1ACD:42A3:814A (talk) 05:58, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

grateful for advice on how to update the labels on the map uploaded by @Grutness: please Somej (talk) 09:34, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Open the map for editing, then simply add an extra "location" link to the bottom of the list before the final "}}". Use the latitude and longitude from the town's page (you'll have to convert it to decimal, unfortunately), link the article, and add a position for the town's name on the map (you may need to use trial and error to find the best place for it). For instance, the last line is currently for Winton:
{{location map~ |New Zealand South Island |lat=-46.133333|long=168.333333|label=[[Winton, New Zealand|Winton]]|position=top}}
To add one that isn't on the list (e.g., Riverton), go to Riverton, New Zealand. The coordinates, at the top of the page, are 46°21′S 168°01′E - clicking on those coordinates will take you to the geohack page, near the top of which will be the coordinates both in d/m/s and as a decimal (in this case, -46.35, 168.016667).

Copy the line for Winton on the map and paste it as a new line (preferably keeping the towns in alphabetical order on the list), but change the coordinates and change the label to Riverton, piping it if necessary. Preview that to see how it looks on the map. If the name label gets in the way of other labels you may have to change "position=top" to bottom, left, or right.

{{location map~ |New Zealand South Island |lat=-46.35|long=168.016667|label=[[Riverton, New Zealand|Riverton]]|position=left}}
Once it looks good, either save it or add another of the missing locations.
Hope that helps :) Grutness...wha? 13:21, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
