No Hinduism at the time of Ashoka[edit]

We have no evidence that Ashoka ever claimed to be a Hindu before his conversion to Buddhism. At that time there was the Vedic religion on the one hand and the Shramanic traditions who rejected the Vedas. Hinduism was formed much later when most local religions were brought under the Brahmanic flag. We do not have a single specific source where Ashoka claims to have been a Hindu before converting. The Vedic religion also was not the same as the Hinduism we hear about much later. I think Wikipedia needs to be vigil regarding articles that might be influenced by ultra right wing Hindutva revisionists. 47.150.110.53 (talk) 06:46, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
