Order of listing agencies[edit]

Wouldn't this be more useful listed alphabetically by country, not by name of organization, which is often in other language(s) (plural for some countries)? Howard C. Berkowitz 11:05, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Sounds like a much better way to structure the list. Two possible approaches: just reordering the list alphabetically by country, or inserting sub-chapter headings (the ones with three equalsigns before and after) by country and listing the agencies underneath alphabetically. --AzureCitizen 14:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do we want historic agencies? Without thinking about it too far, on seeing KGB as well as FSB, I added those predecessors that came to mind: MGB, NKVD, NVKD, OGPU, Cheka, and, in the great circle of Russia, Okhrana. I'm sure I missed a few, although it's arguable if, say, the Osoby Otdel is exactly a CI organization.
The Russian and Communist groups looked lonely, so I threw in the Gestapo, and now may be feeling guilty about not adding the SD and Gestapa. This is starting to feel like one of those horror movies with lipstick smeared on the mirror, saying "stop me before I kill again."
I have only marginal confidence that I can keep up with the renaming, spawning, and blob-rejoining of US agencies. At least I know I can't keep track of whatever the ISA has become. Feeling as if I'm about to break into giggles, I am also reminded of when the Navy had the cover of Task Force 157 blown, so, inscrutably, it became Task Force 158. Howard C. LOL! (the reference to horror films and the writing in the mirror, and trying to track this mess)
I'm thinking definitely, let's include the historical ones. But we'll divide the list in two: active organizations, and legacy (defunct) organizations. I'll take a step at setting it up right now... --AzureCitizen 02:35, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, done. Active organizations are at the top, while defunct organizations are at the bottom, and both are organized alphabetically by host country. Although, for a couple of them, I wasn't sure if it was truly a CI organization or an intelligence agency. As long as that intelligence agency includes a CI section, it's still fine by me. --AzureCitizen 03:05, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
