Proposed changes[edit]

"List of countries by IPv4 address allocation" does not seem a valid description for what this list is. I came to it expecting to see a list of actual IP address ranges and the countries to which they are allocated. I'd like to recommend a move to "List of countries with the number of IPv4 addresses allocated to them".

Also, the second graph says "There are 232 (over four billion) IP addresses available in the IPv4 protocol". The word available (emphasis mine) is not really correct. Many addresses are reserved, military, private use, broadcast, simulcast, etc. and are not generally available to be allocated. Shouldn't we use the real number that is allocatable to the public internet? —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 12:19, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Use the International System of Units, by using spaces "as a thousands separator (1 000 000) in contrast to commas or periods (1,000,000 or 1.000.000) to reduce confusion resulting from the variation between these forms in different countries." So 21,435.41 would be 21 435.41 or 21 435,41. --Palladipeloarancione (talk) 18:14, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Put rank column (1,2,3) next to table, but not in it[edit]

See {{rank order}} and Help:Sorting#Initial alphabetical sort versus initial sort by rank order. See the section about putting a separate rank column (1,2,3) next to a table. This makes the table easier to maintain and update. This works whether the table is initially in rank order or alphabetical order. --Timeshifter (talk) 08:48, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this change is necessary or a good idea. There is a related discussion going on about this over at Talk:List of countries by number of Internet users#Rank-order column (1,2,3) should be static and separate, lets continue the discussion there. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 15:52, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If this list continues to not rank sub-regions and territories, then the other discussion you link to is relevant. I think it is a bad idea though not to just use a separate rank column here though. --Timeshifter (talk) 10:49, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

World entry[edit]

I dared to rename the entry "World" by "World (including reserved addresses)" and added the entry "World (usable for public routing)" because I required that information myself and I think that other people are also interested in the number of addresses that can really be used.

Could somebody check if this is useful and if the numbers in the entry are correct? ---Mr1278 (talk) 07:38, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Data source and/or references missing[edit]

Validating this result isn't easy. How this data is gathered, from which sources and how information aggregated? To estimate data quality exact steps to reproduce the result is needed.

An example: FAANG operate globally with multiple data centers. IPv4 address allocation is really difficult to attribute per country as European data centers consume US address allocation. If this is ignored during aggregation, it should be at least mentioned as an inaccuracy. --Cfturkja (talk) 19:26, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
