Requested move 4 July 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Editors objected on the grounds that the term was ambiguous, but these objections were insufficient to sway supporters, who argued both that it wasn't ambiguous due to the lack of federal lands in DC, and due to the natural disambiguation of "DC".

With strength of argument on each side roughly equal we defer to the level of community support, and in this light we find a rough consensus to move. (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 18:43, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of federal lands in Washington (state)List of federal lands in Washington – As part of a follow-up to Talk:List_of_mountain_passes_in_Washington_(state)#Requested move 16 June 2023, this article should not have parenthetical disambiguation when there is nothing at the base name per WP:QUALIFIER. While there are federal lands in D.C., I believe the state is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. There should be a hatnote to direct users to something about federal lands in D.C.; probably the best target is List of the United States National Park System official units with a row anchor added to link to the D.C. part of the table. Other possibilities include National Capital Parks and Template:Protected areas of the District of Columbia. Mdewman6 (talk) 20:24, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose the primary topic clearly should be DC. The most famous federal properties in the country exist there -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 00:08, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Properties, perhaps, but not federal lands. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:14, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Clearly ambiguous. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:35, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The article on D.C. is naturally disambiguated with "D.C." Rreagan007 (talk) 00:53, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's irrelevant, given "Washington" (undisambiguated) can refer to either. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:41, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support a hatnote can link to relevant DC articles, there's no need for a DAB page or parenthetical here. Reywas92Talk 18:10, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – do we really expect our readers to know the difference between a federal property and a federal land? The government has enough of a stake in DC where the title here becomes ambiguous, at least in my opinion, to a casual reader, and the nom points out that there do exist federal lands in DC (even if we don't have an article on them). • Support a hatnote is sufficient to disambiguate here and Washington DC is a natural disambiguatory marker. Jorahm (talk) 21:56, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support. If an article on lands in DC did exist, there would be no PTOPIC, but there is no article, so unnecessary disambiguation. CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE (I will not see your reply if you don't mention me) 03:33, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Federal lands is a specific term that could not apply to Washington D.C. :3 F4U (they/it) 03:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Unnecessary disambiguation (no other article with topic that matches this title). PRECISION. —В²C 05:10, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
