Why does this list exist?[edit]

The existence of a list of female state attorneys general, combined with the nonexistence of a list of male state attorneys general, is a textbook example of gender inequality:

"Gender inequality is the social phenomenon in which men and women are not treated equally."

The two ways to rectify this case of gender inequality are

  1. create a list of male state attorneys general
  2. delete the list of female state attorneys general.

I'd prefer the latter, because there are many women who are qualified to serve as an attorney general, and there's nothing notable about being female while serving as attorney general. The existence of this list perpetuates a rather sexist view – that it is difficult to find a woman qualified for the position, and that female attorney generals are therefore notable. 2601:281:D880:7880:4DAB:5A24:F200:FFBB (talk) 20:37, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the prod tag. Saying that this perpetuates a sexist view (which I disagree with) isn't a reason to delete an article. Skynxnex (talk) 21:19, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can unilaterally remove a prod tag, before any discussion has taken place, when you disagree with someone? Hmm, I've never tried that tactic. Let's discuss: how us this not a blatant case of gender inequality? 2601:281:D880:7880:B9C5:C0CE:FAC2:3CDC (talk) 07:11, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From Template:Proposed deletion/dated: You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to deletion for any reason. The WP:PROD process is for uncontroversial deletion requests. If there's any disagreement, then WP:AFD is the next step to reach consensus if it can't be otherwise found on this talk page.
For the merits of deletion an article/list being a blatant case of gender inequality isn't, by itself, a reason for deletion. And I'd argue that this isn't furthering gender inequality but rather listing inequality that does exist in the US. External, reliable sources talk about the first female state AG and the number there has been, and how many states haven't had one yet. So at least for the amount I've looked, this article seems to meet WP:NLIST. Skynxnex (talk) 15:58, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's just amazing how someone can look at a situation where men and women are not treated equally – the very definition of gender inequality – and say with a straight face that it's not gender inequality. There exists a list of female attorneys general, and there does not exist a list of male attorneys general. A more clear-cut case of unequal treatment is hard to imagine.
If you want to make a case for gender inequality against female attorneys general, you'd have to post statistics from a reliable source such as "91% of the female qualified candidates were not selected, while only 77% of the male qualified candidates were not selected." Merely pointing out that there are fewer female attorneys general does not make the case, just as pointing out that most nurses are female does not constitute evidence of discrimination against male nurses. 2601:281:D880:7880:C065:522A:D30B:A5EF (talk) 06:04, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
