merge[edit]

I suggest the proposed merging from List of films featuring extraterrestrials to bring the table format, as the recent table automatic reordering sorting functions could be used for a better usability. Waldir 17:32, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What about the 1983 film called Wavelength? This movie should be added to the list as well, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.242.123.236 (talk) 03:52, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know, the smileys were a silly idea :P
And yes, i agree that List of films featuring extraterrestrials is a better name. feel free to move contents from this article to there. I won't do it (not soon, at least) cause lately i've been very busy with my primary wikipedia, the portuguese one, and school stuff too. Waldir 22:35, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

List of alien filmsList of films featuring extraterrestrials — More accurate and encyclopedic title. Proposed title is currently a redirect to the existing title (see above merge discussion). This renaming would also conform to other existing articles and categories relating to fictional extraterrestrials such as Extraterrestrial life in popular culture, Category:Fictional extraterrestrial species, and Category:Fictional extraterrestrials. Survey[edit]

Add  # '''Support'''  or  # '''Oppose'''  on a new line in the appropriate section followed by a brief explanation, then sign your opinion using ~~~~. Please remember that this survey is not a vote, and please provide an explanation for your recommendation.

Survey - in support of the move[edit]

  1. Support. Unless they're films made by aliens (note all the "List of (Fooian) films"). Target title is more accurate. --SigPig |SEND - OVER 10:21, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support, as the current title is too ambiguous. An "alien film" could very well be some Area 51-type alien sighting home video. Or made by aliens, of course. - Cyrus XIII 19:22, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in opposition to the move[edit]

  1. Oppose. New title would be overlong and people would search for alien films
  • Comment If people search for "alien films" there can be a redirect. In fact there is no article named "alien" on Wikipedia - the article is called Extraterrestrial life. Croxley 02:01, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Add any additional comments:

2012 - 2013 movie list needs an update... Important films like U.F.O.; The Host; After Earth... many more missing. Needs a comprehensive list from 2010 onward. Thanks.

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 08:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

where is the table?[edit]

Is someone going to convert the list format into the table format the article under this title had before the move, as i suggested above? --Waldir 21:36, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well... after some time adding the years, I converted the list to the table format. Now it can be sorted by year or name. Any suggestions for more columns? Say, director, or something... Waldir 21:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attack of the killer tomatoes[edit]

Why is Attack of the killer tomatoes in this list the tomatoes are not aliens —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jack turnip (talkcontribs)

You're right. I removed the entry. Waldir 21:43, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Toy Story[edit]

My wife tells me that the 'aliens' in Toy Story are actually just toys. Thus, I don't think this should count since toy aliens don't match the definition of extraterrestrial in any way at all, so please remove Toy Story from the list. --Brindy666 (talk) 15:12, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For reference: Brindy666 removed the entries at 12:27, 6 February 2009 (UTC). Also, I agree with his rationale. --Waldir talk 14:10, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cloverfield[edit]

At the end of Cloverfield, it clearly shows the monster dropping into the water from out of the sky. This means that the monster IS from outer space, and DOESN'T come from the ocean like it says at the bottom. Can someone please correct this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.36.50.185 (talk) 19:38, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, that was a satellite falling out of orbit that awoke the monster, which was deep in the ocean (a deliberate homage to Cthulhu.) oknazevad (talk) 20:28, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The newest film The Cloverfield Paradox confirms that the invasions/attacks are from alien life forms.--206.81.136.61 (talk) 22:20, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Exclusion Criteria?[edit]

This page is, in a sense, omnivore: I see that it contains films as 2010 or Contact, where the existence of extraterrestrial life is essential to the plot, films as Alien or the Thing, where the nature of the alien is again important, films as "Star Wars" and a part of the space opera where aliens are only exotic populations, but not the centre point of the plot, and films where the aliens are present only as a gag. I was searching for something more definite (and perhaps more useful for a research). --80.88.167.6 (talk) 15:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. We could split the page into sections using the classification you mention. Feel free do to so :) --Waldir talk 14:04, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should 2001 be on this list?[edit]

I don't recall any extraterrestrials in that movie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.15.204.49 (talk) 20:42, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They aren't displayed explicitly onscreen, but they're implied and a crucial part of the plot. --Waldir talk 14:01, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WALL-E[edit]

Is wall-e really appropriate for this list? Everything in the film is originally from Earth. Unifyingtheory (talk) 17:25, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Watch[edit]

What about The Watch (2012, Ben Stiller)?
Also Monty Python's Life of Brian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2sI8vIJQY8)
Originalname37 (Talk?) 22:04, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A-Z[edit]

Someone needs to create a jump-list of A-Z at the top of this list so that readers don't have to scroll so far down to find what they're looking for. Should be a relatively easy fix. --206.81.136.61 (talk) 22:22, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Second X-Files Movie?[edit]

Why is the second X-Files movie listed here? The first one was about aliens. The second one was about the psychic (Father Joe) and the guy who was kidnapping people and stealing organs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Fitzgerald Byers (talkcontribs) 06:28, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
