'Muhafazah'(محافظة)[edit]

in KSA is 'district' & not 'governorate'. The governorate is province or 'mantaqah'(منطقة). This confusion needs to be corrected in this article & elsewhere in other articles in the Wikipedia.Ilaila (talk) 14:42, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Amanah/Municipalities[edit]

Since the amanah do not belong administratively too any sub-governorate/district, and are in fact on the level of a sub-governorate/district themselves, can someone create another section on the page identifying these municipalities? Currently, there is no distinction made in the listings between a sub-governorate/district and a municipality, so you have to guess which of the sub-governorates listed is the provincial municipality. --Criticalthinker (talk) 10:38, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Coming back to this, because it's still unanswered, though now I see that the regional capitals would be on the same administrative level as governorates. What's more confusing is that a City Mayor, City Governor, and Provincial Governor are all listed in Jeddah's infobox. I thought the municipalities would only have a City Mayor who'd be equivalent to a leader of a Governorate? --Criticalthinker (talk) 07:47, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Boundary Updates[edit]

I have made small changes to correct the governorates, including alignment with recent changes to Province boundaries:

Haql area on the Red Sea has been transferred from Al Jouf to Tabuk Province.
Najran Province has been extended to meet EP at the Yemen-Oman border.

Previous changes to Provinces appear to be handled already (e.g. transferring Bareq/Birk from Makkah to Asir Province).

Note that Google maps has incorrect out-of-date information, but HERE maps is correct and up-to-date, as far as I can tell. Do not edit any information here based on what you see on Google maps.

I also added a link to a government document for the 2010 census that contains very good maps of all the governorates, and a list with Arabic and English names. The document is covered by the copyright on the home page of the web site (All rights reserved to General Authority for Statistics © 2018), so the individual maps should not be extracted and pasted separately within the article without permission.

The list numbers are hard references into the linked document, therefore I have formatted using explicit numbers and hard line Break template, consciously ignoring the usual style guidelines. The obvious reason is that any reordering of an implicitly numbered list would destroy the referencing. Please do not change the numbers, or revert to a bulleted list, without a very good reason.

I have also added a reference to the census data itself. I now consider the 2 references enough to remove the 'unreferenced' banner.

I removed the old map of Qassim, because it was in arabic (not useful for en site), the information was out-of-date, and it did not have a useful level of detail. The linked document contains much better maps.

Someone or some script has changed the hardcoded Break lists to plainlist style - very good, it's much cleaner, and I like learning new tricks.

About list of governorates[edit]

About the list of governorates of Saudi Arabia, have there been any actual sources or links that define the current number of 136 governorates? But instead, it only shows the list of 118 governorates, as of the nation's 2010 census. jlog3000 (talk) 18:33, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
