The lists of all the intendentes might be moved to lists of govenors of their respective places, if there aren't already lists in place.-Banana04131 16:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

can this page be broken up? the respective list of governers put in the articles of each territory listed instead of putting them together? it seems like a more concise way of presenting the information, specifically more in line with an encyclopedia. Syzergy 10:32, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur - split the article into its two major components - an explanation of the etymology, history and usage of "Intendente"; and the holders of the office(s) known as "Intendentes" (or whatever, I don't speak a word of spanish!). Splitting the page further into the individual governorships would be a labour of love that I wouldn't want to undertake.
On another note, there is also quite a lot of unrelated material scattered through the list(s) which could do with being 'mucked out'.

It has been copied from www.worldstatesmen.org... I will keep some data but will erase the lists.Souris2005 15:45, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't erase the lists! This is quite useful for an understanding of the colonial history of the region. I hope to write short biographies on some of the more prominent individuals listed here. (However, I have no objection to breaking up the lists or moving them elsewhere.) Rbraunwa 23:15, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved this article "Intendente" to the more appropriate "List of governors in the Viceroyalty of New Spain." Transferring the lists to the individual articles prove to be stylistically ugly for the target articles, so I decided that a list was best, and it preserves Rbraunwa's work. I've since discovered that this list duplicates others See (List of pre-statehood governors of California), but that might not be much of problem, as long as both lists are cross-listed on the relevant articles. Let's improve the article[edit]

The article is currently quite low quality and says nothing about the reasons why the offices of intendente were created and their role in Spain proper. Here is an excellent explanation (in Spanish) of the creation and role of the intendentes: [1]. This Spanish article should be entirely translated here. I don't have time for this now. Anyone volunteering? If you have troubles translating some of the terms in English, ask me. Hardouin 23:39, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a look at it. It's a copyrighted article, though, so it can't just be translated. Rbraunwa 23:15, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See my note above about moving this article to a new title. The description of the intendente best belongs in the article Intendant. The intendente directly modeled on the French intendant, so unless a very long discussion of the Spanish intendente is planned, a short section in the general article works great. I've created a section in Intendant based on my knowledge of the institution and on the Spanish-language article. TriniMuñoz (talk) 16:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources?[edit]

There's a lot of really good information in this article...but no sources! I'd like to use some of these names and dates in other articles, but need sources. The information all seems to be copied from the one website "World Statesmen.org". WCCasey (talk) 08:15, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
