Republican Governor in 1820s?[edit]

I don't seem to recall the Republican party existing until the 1850s. I don't know what party Govr Kent may have been in, but I'm fairly confident it wasn't the GOP.--Bwryan2006 19:05, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto John Henry and Robert Wright, serving in the late 1700s/early 1800s, are listed as "Democrats". The Democratic party didn't emerge until after Andrew Jackson's presidency in the 1830s. Wright is listed on his page has being a Democratic-Republican in the Senate, for what that's worth, but somebody needs to figure out their real party affiliations. --Jfruh (talk) 16:14, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ehrlich[edit]

I have a question just a general wondering, why was AKA Governor Ehrlich signing documents for the State of Maryland in the year 2001 if he was not elected as Governor until the year 2003? Ehrlich was a US representative until 2003; he was elected governor in 2002. What do you mean by "signing documents for the State of Maryland"? --Jfruh (talk) 21:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lord Baltimore[edit]

Numbering Governors[edit]

I have been updating some of the individual Maryland Governor articles with the politicians template. When I got to Oden Bowie he was listed as the 38th Governor, whereas everyone I'd worked on up to that point was four less. Martin O'Malley is described as the 61st Governor, but if you count the number of State governors in the List of Governors of Maryland, he is the 65th listed. Should the Governors all be renumbered? I cannot find a source to tell me definitively whether O'Malley is the 61st or 65th Governor... help!--Pubdog (talk) 00:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What you're running into is Governors who served more than one term non-consecutively. For example, Thomas Sim Lee was Governor twice in the early years after the Revolution. Thanks for the clarification. Given this, would it be appropriate to say that Martin O'Malley is the 61st Governor serving in the 65th term? Would you say in the introduction for Thomas Sim Lee, for instance (one of the four with non-consecutive terms) that he "was the second Governor of Maryland, who served the second and eighth term as Governor"? When I think of references to Grover Cleveland he served as the 22nd and 24th President, so I thought perhaps the same "rule" applied to Governors of Maryland as well.
