INTRODUCTION[edit]

"During the First World War, the Canadian Army authorized the formation of 260 infantry battalions to serve in the Canadian Expeditionary Force...." seems poorly composed. First, the Canadian Army did not yet exist. Second, the power to authorize units was vested in the Minister of Militia and Defence, the Honourable Sir Sam Hughes, M.P., under the auspices of his being a minister of the Crown, not an officer of the Militia.

PERPETUATIONS[edit]

Might it make sense to annotate the list with those regiments that perpetuate battalions of the C.E.F.?

Yes, I thought of doing that a while back and then totally forgot about that little project. Now that you have brought it up here, I think I will start on that in the next few days. I will make the list into a table and include columns for authorization and disbanding dates, as well as current perpetuation. Indefatigable (talk) 22:33, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I converted it to a table and filled in the perpetuations up to 17th Bn. The rest can be filled in (by me or anybody else), along with the authorization and disbandment dates over the next few days/weeks.Indefatigable (talk) 22:19, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CANADIAN MOUNTED RIFLES[edit]

From this site it would appear there were up to 13 Canadian Mounted Rifles units [1] --Jim Sweeney (talk) 16:54, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
