Talk:List of interwar military aircraft

OK, created this list for 1) to have a comprehensive list of interwar military aircraft and 2) because all the other lists are so screwed up that the info needed to be consolidated.

Feel free to come to a decision about what should & shouldn't be included. I was originally going to include aircraft that didn't see action, but that would knock out trainers. In general if I wasn't sure just when one went into production I left it out. For example, the P40's first flight puts it in range but I don't have an exact date of first production or even just a month. Thus I left it out.

Still working on this, several countries to go but will likely stop at the major powers. Hopefully someone will fill in the gaps. Wouldn't mind having aircraft from smaller countries involved if built there or built for them on contract.

Anyways, hope this lists lasts & perseveres. I'm tired. Have fun with it. :)

Oh, and someone please put this into a list form if you see it before I do next.

What is the point of this list? Why are other lists all screwed up? As one of the criteria is production date, then surely only the production country is required (Bolivia?). Please convince me that there is a good reason for this list, that cannot be serviced by the myriad others extant.Petebutt (talk) 01:25, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What other lists are on Wikipedia that specifically cover interwar military aircraft? The few other lists I found were spotty at best and not comprehensive of the whole. The aircraft built between the wars reflect advances made in late WW1 & herald designs that were used up to and including WW2. Many of these aircraft were used in battle in such places as Burma and Spain. They represent a portion of history that is often overlooked. Tengu99 (talk) 01:23, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I admit that I am unsure on whether an aircraft should be listed by the primary user or production country. I'm hoping that as the list grows it will be debated. One problem with listing these aircraft is that several were made on contract from other countries. Should a plane made by a German company be listed as a German aircraft if Germany never accepted it into their military? Perhaps so, perhaps not. Tengu99 (talk) 01:28, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After completing (or at least I think it's complete) the German section I agree with Petebutt: the aircraft should be included with their country of origin, even if they weren't the primary user. I think an exception can be made if the designers only made 1-2 prototypes then the country that ordered it actually produced it, especially if they made modifications and gave it a new name. Some of the early Japanese aircraft were Heinkel designed. By just using country of origin we eliminate a lot of needless repetition and possible confusion. When someone clicks on the link the article itself will tell them who the primary user was. I'm also wondering if maybe gliders should be included after all.Tengu99 (talk) 03:57, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighter_aircraft#Interwar_period_.281919.E2.80.9338.29 but that doesn't actually cover all of the aircraft. There's a link to interwar fighters but it redirects to fighter aircarft. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.89.235.155 (talk) 06:11, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hawker Audax needed[edit]

If you are going to list variants of the Hawker Hart (Hind, Demon etc) then you should include Audax. Dean1954 (talk) 14:14, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Removed Demon as it doesn't have it's own page, but since the others do they were retained. Tengu99 (talk) 19:48, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

title capitalization[edit]

Is there a good reason why interwar is capitalized in the page name? - NiD.29 (talk) 21:51, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
