Reservoir[edit]

Looks to me like Blackwater Reservoir should be listed in the reservoirs: Its area is roughly 12 by 1 km, perhaps 3.5 square miles? 81.132.10.0 17:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC) djcmackay[reply]

Which is the largest man-made lake in the UK? Rutland Water or Kielder Water? The latter claims the title on its article page. Both make the claim on their respective websites, and there are numerous claims that each is the largest man-made lake in Europe. What criteria are used, and are the figures on this page correct? --JRawle 20:34, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would guess Rutland Water is the largest by surface area, and Kielder Water is the largest by water capacity. Morwen - Talk 09:36, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Depth[edit]

Is it 228 or 248 m deep? Ufwuct 21:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This page says that George Edwards measured a maximum depth of 812 feet (247 m).
Taking that page along with this one, the other measurement seems to come from the previously assumed maximum depth of 750 feet (229 m). --David Edgar 11:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Size[edit]

I feel this article should make it clearer that this is talking about surface area, not volume of water.Greynolds999 16:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lakes in Scotland[edit]

While I am aware that there are three bodies of water in Scotland calling themselves "lakes", the use of the word "lake" in Scotland is often considered to be borderline offensive, and the article should reflect this.--MacRusgail 15:25, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should also take into account that "loch" refers to saltwater bodies too. --MacRusgail (talk) 19:28, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New table[edit]

My last edit summary was cut short by some gremlin - as should be obvious there is now a more comprehensive table for the largest water bodies. Ben MacDui 18:22, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Area figures[edit]

It's not clear to me where the figures for the areas of each of the lakes/lochs listed has come from. can anyone point me to a source and ought that source to be referenced in the article? thanks Geopersona (talk) 19:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bathymetrical Survey of the Fresh-Water Lochs of Scotland, 1897-1909? Geopersona (talk) 20:49, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Some as indicated but I have no idea where the English and Welsh data is supposed to come from I'm afraid. Ben MacDui 21:07, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
