Source of information suspect[edit]

This entire page is sourced to one website, relbanks.com, which in turn offers no sourcing whatsoever, not even an ownership statement. Relbanks is anonymously registered in Australia. I do not believe this can be considered a reliable source. Several reliable, named alternatives are available, all of which appear to cite The Banker as the authoritative source. I wonder if relbanks has simply lifted their data. No way to know, since it's not sourced, though it used to cite The Banker in previous years. Jcfreed (talk) 14:16, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

misinformation?[edit]

Clearly there is a discrepancy amongst sources here. I was just reading the Wells Fargo, and it cites a Euromoney article saying Wells Fargo just eclipsed ICBC with a market cap of $236 billion http://www.euromoney.com/Article/3237843/Category/17/ChannelPage/8959/Market-capitalization-China-versus-western-banks.html . That puts Wells Fargo in the #1 slot (as of August 2013). DeepersD (talk) 19:19, 31 October 2013 (UTC)DeepersD[reply]

There seems to be a discrepancy in the list of largest banks by Market capitalization with the second position in the list being edited to reflect State Bank of India instead of China Construction Bank in the previous version of the page. State Bank of India is the second largest bank by market capitalization in India but not in the world. 27.4.13.209 (talk) 17:16, 9 January 2014 (UTC) Mrinal Roushan[reply]

Market cap, and assets are two different things. Alcibiades979 (talk) 00:30, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Source? and Accounting Methods[edit]

See Forbes Magazine for discussion of a potential source (SNL Financial) and different accounting methods (International and GAAP in U.S.): http://www.forbes.com/sites/halahtouryalai/2014/02/12/worlds-100-biggest-banks-chinas-icbc-1-no-u-s-banks-in-top-5/

Bank of China appears twice[edit]

Bank of China appears twice on the list of top 20 banks. Click both links lead to the same page. Which one is the correct one for Bank of China? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.224.206.127 (talk) 17:38, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List is a bit misleading[edit]

China factors heavily in the top 10, however this is a bit misleading due to the strange relationship between the Chinese Government and their banks. The idea of the list is private banks, however alot of the Chinese banks that are listed are either quasi-governmental institutions, or less quasi more defacto governmental institutions. Would there be an uproar if I were to add a couple of sentences with sources on this? Alcibiades979 (talk) 00:32, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

KfW[edit]

Germany's third largest bank in terms of total assets KfW does not appear. Alex1011 (talk) 11:40, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

List by country and market cap[edit]

The list of the 'top 70 banks' by market cap and country lists only 64 banks. I haven't checked in detail, but #69 and #70 are definitely missing because their countries don't appear in the list Chrismorey (talk) 14:33, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The list of largest banks[edit]

This list was correct with 2020 assets data by S&P issued on April 2021. Some people changed the assets data without/with other source and there are big errors. YMVD (talk) 05:35, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2022 list of S & P[edit]

S & P released its 2022 list of largest banks in the world with total assets data as of 12/31/2021. YMVD (talk) 07:05, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

that seems like something that merits discussion? Just flagging it up, not suggesting a course of action. Apologies if I've missed something. Tomatoswoop (talk) 22:35, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

this should not have been deleted. Since there was no discussion this should be put back in HiFX (talk) 21:19, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
