The lists here have a lot of overlap with the article List of mathematical symbols. The two articles should be merged or at least their relation should be clarified. As far as I can tell, only the hierarchical classification schemes are really different. --Mark viking (talk) 03:01, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article was generated after a discussion in Talk:List of mathematical symbols#Reorganize. Maybe rename the other article to List of mathematical symbols by type to make the relation more clear? Best wishes, --Quartl (talk) 05:25, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That article has been moved or merged to Glossary of mathematical symbols, but still does seem redundant. -- Beland (talk) 21:26, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have proposed a merge, discussing on Talk:Glossary of mathematical symbols. -- Beland (talk) 21:34, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

this article is useless if not easy to find with google[edit]

this is the first time I find this article, whereas I searched so many times for particular latex symbols. hence I'd say we need to add many keywords to help search engines : list of latex symbols maths, latex mathematical symbols, modulo latex, norm latex, etc.

do you agree ? 78.227.78.135 (talk) 06:11, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Would be more useful with copy-pasteable Unicode representations[edit]

For whatever reason the equations are images, rather than copy-pasteable text. In general I have LaTeXML turned on for rendering Wikipedia, or I thought I did, but given that there are *unicode* representations, it would be good for the copy-pasteable versions to show up for any user. Notation for The limit as x approaches a from the left/right[edit]

Looks like

or

It's used to express a function's behaviour when it acts differently when approaching a limit from the left or right. Take the function:

At x=0, the function "blows up" to from the right side, and to from the left side, so you would write that...

, and

Also, sometimes a function might not be defined on the left side, so you would only express

List of mathematical symbols by subjectHelp:List of mathematical symbols by subject – This article is not an encyclopedia article but rather a technical help/reference article meant to help people writing math formulas find the symbol(s) that they need. This is why I propose moving this article into Wikipedia's "Help" namespace. See also the discussion at: Talk:Glossary_of_mathematical_symbols#Proposal_to_merge_from_List_of_mathematical_symbols_by_subject. Mgkrupa 17:06, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. The "Help" namespace is for articles related to help navigating Wikipedia. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:08, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Help:Displaying a formula but more importantly, let's just try to help editors do it right (and when they make a mistake, give them a polite and gentle steer to where they can learn to do better next time). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 22:52, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. While list-y, this seems closer to "real" encyclopedia content for general use than advice for specifically Wikipedia. SnowFire (talk) 19:12, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The Wikipedia:Help namespace is about how to use Wikipedia itself. The need to look up symbols and how to produce them in LaTeX is not something specific to editing/using Wikipedia; it is common to people learning and doing mathematics in general outside Wikipedia. Operation (mathematics)[edit]

As noted today in History by Joel Brennan, the section on Binary relations has some misalignment. The column Usage has Operation (mathematics) where it should occur in the column Articles using. It is suggested that Infix notation be included in the latter column. Further, it is suggested that this section is misplaced under Order theory, and might be moved up.
