Please lock this page and that of the Shahab-3 missile.[edit]

They appear to have been vandalized (Shahab-3 removed from list of Iranian missiles, etc.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.69.213.177 (talk) 22:35, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merging the List of missiles by country with the List of missiles by nation[edit]

Please comment on this merge proposal at the Weaponry task force talk page. --Wernher 15:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed RBS-77 from the Sweden entry as it is a modification of the American HAWK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.233.34.214 (talk) 17:26, 9 October 2007 (UTC) ---[reply]

excuse me, but the italian missile? For example the AA Aspide and the anti-ship Teseo and Marte?--82.54.64.9 (talk) 16:09, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Structure!![edit]

This article (which is not a list anymore!!!) has no logical structure. We should have the same classification for each country. i.e.

  • SAM (incl MANPADS)
  • AAM
  • ASM
  • SSM
  • Others

Maybe sub-divide them by range (short-medium-long) or by generation, by guidance type, etc. Germ 00:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed using a sortable table at List of missiles. This would allow us to use a single list which the user could sort on model codes, common name, country(area) of origin, and missile type.

Here's what I had in mind:

Common Name Model Code Country (area) of origin Missile type NATO Code
V-2 Rocket A-4 Germany Ballistic missile
Kaliningrad K-5 K-5 Soviet Union Air-to-air missile AA-1 Alkali
Vympel K-13 K-13 Soviet Union Air-to-air missile AA-2 Atoll
Kaliningrad K-8 K-8 Soviet Union Air-to-air missile AA-3 Anab
Raduga K-9 K-9 Soviet Union Air-to-air missile A-4 Awl
Mitsubishi AAM-3 AAM-3 Japan Air-to-air missile
Hound Dog AGM-28 Hound Dog United States Cruise missile
Can anyone think of other columns we might want to add? ComputerGeezer (talk) 01:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agree The structure proposed looks clear to me, and a single table should make the content easier to understand (and maybe avoid duplication and incongruencies among lists on the same topic !). I'd just add the following to what has been proposed:
  • "something" to allow making reference to variants or derivatives (eg: the case of the Swedish RBS-77 derived the American HAWK, as mentioned above in this page) or any additional, relevant information; maybe a Comments column would suffice for that.
  • get rid of any reference to the Area (currently "Continent / subcontinent" !?), as it is totally redundant with the Country (eg: no need to say that "Argentina" is in "South America", whoever does not know that just follow ther link to the article about the country).

I think it's a good idea to put the list in a sortable table. Also don't forget to remove the picturs and other redondant information (such as the designation, which can be found somewhere else). As stated in September 2007 (see above), we need to keep it simply a list.
Also, I noticed that some articles include parts of this list.
Now who is going to spend hours on that task? --Ŧħę௹ɛя㎥ 22:56, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm taking a stab at it in my sandbox, but it's taking more than an hour :-) and I split the NATO column and had to add one to capture the US designation scheme data... It could be a few days before it's ready. ComputerGeezer (talk) 02:04, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Take your time then! There is a lot of stuff !!!! --Ŧħę௹ɛя㎥ 02:48, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have suspended my work on the replacement table until this issue gets cleared up. The first response appears to indicate that every item in any list must have its own in-line citation, so this entire list will have to be deleted (as will List of missiles). —Preceding undated comment was added at 16:59, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

The issue has been resolved and I have deleted my work on a replacement table. The List of missiles I envisioned could not conform to the verifiability policy. (The current list also does not conform to the verifiability policy and should be deleted.) ComputerGeezer (talk) 21:01, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why "annotated with their continent"?[edit]

Hi All, as I said time ago, I believe that annotating the continent does not add value and is redundant. Hence, I will remove that information in all entries as is irrelevant to the purposes of the list. Unless, of course, someone provides a really good reason why the continent is important in this list.
