Merger proposal[edit]

This article has been created under WP:INDIA. Similarly List of stamps of India was begun under WP:Philately. Since this article has the final proposed title, it is proposed to merge the 'List of stamps of India' into the 'List of postage stamps of India'. AshLin (talk) 05:19, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So merged. AshLin (talk) 08:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting of article[edit]

Since this article is growing longer, it is suggested that this be split into sub articles. The stamps issue may be split decade wise for ease. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandeepkmassey (talkcontribs) 04:00, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agreed The page should be split. As fewer stamps were issued in initial years after independence I suggest it may be split say one page for the period from 1947 to 1970 and thereafter one page for each decade. Shyamsunder (talk) 13:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
All the missing years upto and including 2014 added. Guess the article is now ready for splitting. jojo@nthony (talk) 08:34, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Shyamsunder:,@Tachs: Initially I edited this article but then felt it's to lengthy, So made some subpages. and then I came to know about the above discussion. In this regards, I made subpages.

1947 to 1950
1951 to 1960
1961 to 1970
1971 to 1980
1981 to 1990
1991 to 2000
Above pages are split by decade. so if you think it is ok then will move the sandbox articles to main space. 1947 to 1950 is a small subpage but to harmonise the list, I made it separate. 2000 onwards I would like to modify the existing articles as 2001 to 2005, 2006 to 2010, 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2020.

Another thing I would like to point out is that the article is a list type article so the descriptive content should also remove from the article. Your Feedback and suggestions are welcome. --Vijay Barot (talk) 16:59, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vijay Barot: You have done a good job.--jojo@nthony (talk) 07:42, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nizil Shah:, Would you Please guide me regarding the above Discussion? May I Go ahead?--Vijay Barot (talk) 04:22, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Go Ahead. I am watching you!-Nizil (talk) 14:11, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Photos of stamps - copyright[edit]

I would like to contribute photos to this article if possible by photographing stamps from the philately collections of philately-obsessed friends and acquaintances. Not sure of the copyright involved. I have been researching this for a few days and found this text:

Reproduction of stamp images is allowed for illustration purposes in Philatelic Publication or in an article relating wholly on postage stamps which may appear in any magazine, newspaper or publication of a general character. Such reproduction should however, be only in black. If stamps are to be produced in colour for publicity purposes, prior permission of the Director General of Posts must be obtained. To avoid similarity with the postage, such reproduction must be distinctively in smaller or larger sizes than the actual stamp and must be without perforation on the edges. Further, across bar will also be placed on one- corner of the stamp, obliterating the denomination. It must be noted that reproduction of the stamp in colour of the actual size of the stamp with perforation of the edges may be deemed to be taken as production of the actual stamp. Detailed guidelines are available on Guidelines for Use of Images of Postage Stamps[1].

I am a little clueless about how the photos should actually look. Would black and white work? Also from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Stamps/Public_domain, I gather that stamps older than 60 years are in the public domain. So, all stamps from 1954 and earlier can be photographed as is, in colour? Aruna Sankaranarayanan 03:00, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
