Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh[edit]

It has been discovered that this book:

  • Gupta, Om. Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gyan Publishing House, 2006. ISBN 8182053897, 9788182053892.

Contains significant amounts of material plagiarized from Wikipedia articles. (Some other books from the same publisher also have this problem). There is no practical way of determining which material came from Wikipedia, and which came from other sources. Further, widespread plagiarism is an indication of poor scholarship. For those reasons, and according to Wikipedia policy, WP:CIRCULAR, I will deleting all citations to the book. However I will not delete the material that cites it, as there's no indication that the material is inaccurate. For more background, see WP:RSN#Circular references: Gyan Publishing and ISHA Books, or the archive after it goes there.   Will Beback  talk  22:38, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger decision[edit]

It is unfortunate that this article was not tagged for the proposal to merge Major rivers of Pakistan into it. The result is that those watching this page but not the other page were unaware of the debate until it was concluded.

There are problems in merging a narrative article into a list. Most lists are just that, lists, without much if any explanatory comment, which is better in a linked article. The other article would be better merged into an article such a Geography of Pakistan, as suggested by some contributors to the debate. --Mhockey (talk) 18:20, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I could not find a link to this page from the page on Pakistan. Did I just miss it?--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 22:43, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Association of the Ghaggar-Hakra River with the Indus River.[edit]

Regarding this edit - putting aside debates over the reliability of the source, I do not see how the citation supports the article text at all? The actual quote pulled out doesn't mention the Ghaggar-Hakra River at all, and even looking into the source, the Hakra is only mentioned in passing in a way that doesn't seem to touch on that association in any way. Saying that something is "not a consensus view" is strong language and ought to be backed by a source disputing it directly (after all, a river can have multiple associations; simply listing another association - which I think is what this source is trying to do - isn't sufficient.) Also, on top of that, it's an aside in a source completely unrelated to the river in question, which is probably not great for this. --Aquillion (talk) 18:54, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Aquillion: It made sense until the text was disfigured a few months ago[1]. I'll restore it. –Austronesier (talk) 19:28, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
