The Vatican released figures, so that section can be updated[edit]

I don't have time to it update myself, but in doing research today, the Vatican does have numbers now. Can someone edit please? Needs to be converted to dollars, cited, etc.

Not sure the Temple should be included[edit]

having a quick look at the source for Padmanabhaswamy Temple, I'm not sure it should be included as it seems to be more of a treasure than actual wealth controlled by a religious organisation. DirkJandeGeer (talk) 18:08, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Companies section[edit]

In light of List of largest banks, I don't know what to do. All the biggest orgs are banks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:55, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Listing banks by assets is misleading; the amounts currently shown are not market capitalizations, and should not be compared to the market capitalizations of industrial companies, i.e., companies that produce things. Keeping financial institutions in a separate list would make more sense. SLushb01 (talk) 17:37, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Banks should not be there at all. The wealth listed is the assets *under management*, not their own (i.e. their shareholder's) wealth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.7.147.20 (talk) 02:26, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wealth of the Catholic Church[edit]

Could someone please check the supporting ref. The article says $10-15 billion. That sounds like fiction to me.

They own Vatican City and thousands of churches, right? They have been acquiring things for centuries, including cash from their 1.285 billion followers. I mean, a few dozen paintings and buildings of theirs ought to be worth more than $10-15 billion.

Is it possible that 1 year of Jeff Bezos earnings is more than everything they have?

That Time Mag source better be a rock, and if it is, I'd suggest several such refs for such a bold claim. Hmmmmmm. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:30, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The second source mentioned for this (https://www.smh.com.au/national/catholic-church-s-massive-wealth-revealed-20180209-p4yzus.html) mentions 30+ billion, but that is for Australia alone, not world wide. So 30+ billion is still way too low. There are some more numbers mentioned here (https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-rich-vatican-so-wealthy-it-can-stumble-across-millions-euros-just-tucked-away-1478219) that indicate 30 billion is too low. That is, if the page is talking about the Catholic Church worldwide. If 'Catholic Church' in this context means just the Vatican, the text should be edited to say so. 77.61.193.194 (talk) 15:14, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If its wealth is unknown, why is it in the list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.150.156.248 (talk) 08:59, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If it's unknown, it should be taken down. It's like saying that if any organisation's wealth is impossible to calculate, then it should be added to this list. This is not the precedent we want to set. MetroMapFinalRender.svg (talk) 19:56, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Because, though unknown, it's known to be relatively big? Because putting The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "at the top" is...odd since they aren't "worth" near as much as it? Dunno... :) Rogerdpack (talk)

Wealth of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints[edit]

The Reuters article (published in 2012) provides only these numbers: $7 billion in annual tithes and $35 billion in property. This is insufficient to support the $140 billion listed presently as the net worth of the church. Even if we assume the church has no expenditures per year, $7 billion annually since 2012 does not bring us to $140 billion. Another source of note, which is not accounted for in the Reuters article is from MormonLeaks [1], which claims the church owns over $32 billion in shares on the US stock market. Again, assuming the church has no expenditures (certainly a falsehood), these numbers together bring us to only $116 billion. Any additional support for the $140 billion would be appreciated. Not to mention the pbs article from 2022 concerning a $5 million fine states the lads churches total worth at 32 billion. 75.174.114.75 (talk) 00:53, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How about using https://widowsmitereport.wordpress.com/2023update/ as the basis for LDS value? 265B for 2023. 38.94.252.30 (talk) 15:25, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SDA in religious organizations[edit]

It would be interesting to include the Seventh Day Adventists in the religious organizations. Their medical system is probably worth a lot but I am having trouble finding any kind of statistics about the net worth...AdventHealth has 83K employees...just if we want a more complete list, doesn't matter too much.

Wealth of the Greek Orthodox Church[edit]

I went to double check the wealth of it and didn't find the current estimate of 700 billion so do we have evidence of that or should it be removed? Chesemiser (talk) 03:38, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This kind of money is impossible for the Greek orthodox church to carry. Probably it should be MILLIONS not BILLIONS... This could make perfect sense. 94.70.253.24 (talk) 15:06, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
