What is white lithium grease?[edit]

I came here to find out the difference between "generic" and "white" lithium grease. Are they the same thing? Maybe someone can supply the knowledge? :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schmeditator (talk • contribs) 17:13, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am no expert, but my readings indicate that many formulatons of lithium soaps are used. One popular one involves lithium soaps mixed with molybdenum disulfide, which is black. So maybe this is the reason that there are non-white lithium greases. MoS2 is a lubricant (slippery) but not a grease (thixotrophic). According to Ullmann's Encyclopedia MoS2-lithium greases are recommended for more rugged applications. Where the devil is the redirect?[edit]

Clearly lithium soap redirects to lithium grease or the reverse, but for some reason I can't find either redirect link. Neither one shows. What's doing on?? It's not that I object to there being one article (although these are not quite the same thing). What I object to, is a redirect page that is invisible. Could some admin tell me what gives? Contradiction between "Lithium Grease" properties in Wikipedia articles: which is correct ?[edit]

The "Lithium Soap" article (section "Lithium Grease") says that Lithium Grease is water resistant. The "Lubricating Grease" article (section "Engineering assessment and analysis of greases") says it is not. Please would someone knowledgeable correct (at least one) of these ? Many thanks !
