Why is this page about LIN so hard to read and badly formed? There's no captions or anything.

This should be cleaned.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding article. When you believe an article needs improvement, please feel free to make those changes. Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone can edit almost any article by simply following the edit this page link at the top.

Correct link to Specification[edit]

This article seems to be vaguely based on the protocol specification. I have put in reference number 2 a link to where it is possible to buy this document, entitled LIN Specification Package Rev. 2.1. I agree that this article is badly oranised and probably also mostly wrong. I have just started working with LIN, so I have full access to the spec and I am going to update the page as I get to know the protocol. number of slaves[edit]

A recent edit changed "16 nodes (one master and typically up to 15 slaves)" to "17 nodes (one master and typically up to 16 slaves)". While I've seen a few popular articles that do say that LIN supports "up to 16 slave nodes", I'm changing this article back to "up to 15 slave nodes" because:

The app notes I've found say LIN supports "up to 15 slave nodes"
(original research) After reading of the "Atmel AVR308: Software LIN Slave" app note, my understanding is that in LIN 1.0 only 1 node is allowed to transmit at a time. Since there are only 4 identifier bits in the identifier byte used to tell the slave nodes which one should transmit next (or to tell all of them to listen for the master to transmit data), that seems to imply at most 2^4 = 16 nodes (including the master node, indicated by the reserved identifier byte "0x80"), therefore up to 15 slave nodes.

I'm willing to believe that other implementations or later revisions of the LIN specification support more than 15 slaves, but please cite references. --DavidCary (talk) 16:23, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
