A question on British grammar[edit]

A question...

...regarding one of the slight differences between American English and British English.

Why isn't it called the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts?

RADA's use of "Art" make sense that's all they do (I believe). From its name, LAMDA obviously teaches more than just acting. So why isn't "Art" in the plural?

"Dramatic Art" (singular) for the entire field. – iridescent 15:22, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does this make any sense whatsoever?[edit]

The London Academy of Music was founded by Henry Wylde in 1861; this makes the academy the oldest of its kind in Britain[citation needed], after - for example - the Royal Academy of Music (1822) and the Crystal Palace School of Art, Science, and Literature (1854).

"It's the oldest in the world, aside from these other ones which are older, and other older ones that we can't be bothered to mention"???
