Conversion to new format

As a heads-up, a recent mediation was concluded as to how to handle season and episode articles for Lost, and it was agreed that Season articles will no longer be episode-by-episode lists, but instead will have a more general description of the overall season. As such, this article will be converting soon. To join in the discussion about how to handle the details of the conversion (and to volunteer to help with some of the tasks that need doing), please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Lost. --Elonka 14:17, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Aren't Desmond and Henry Gale now in the main cast? They're still listed as secondary characters, it would probably be better to list them as main characters.

When?

When does this series commence? It mentions some time in 2007, does that mean no lost for this whole year? I can seriously see Lost losing it's appeal due to the fact unlike all other series, it takes forever to release it's seasons. 211.30.71.59 22:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, that was a typo that crept into the article. The third season begins tomorrow, October 4th, runs for six episodes, then there will be a break, and then it'll restart in 2007. --Elonka 00:15, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I would like to know if anyone has an idea as to when in February the next 17 episodes will start airing? The 7th of Feb. and I thought it was 16 episodes?

It is 16 episodes. The 17th might be because I bet the season finale will be two hours...making it 17 instead of 16.

Removed the following vandalism (it's cute though :) " It appears that not everything is all fine and dandy on the island after Rose's strip tease and karoke for Charlie, this attracts the attention on Aaron, Claires baby, who says his first words "Look at the crazy black women she sings like a angel and looks like Opra after a trip to KFC". Meanwhile after a conversation about how huge Mr Eko is and how his crazy hair and sweet gentle voice makes Desmond cry, Locke and Bernade talk about whos got the bigger knife." Cheers...Pam

I changed the Season 3 summary ever so slightly to make it read just a hair better. Some sentences ran on and poor punctuation made it difficult to read at points. Kudos to whoever contributed all that information, but I cleaned it up a little for you. -Rob

Paulo in Main Cast?

I read somewhere that he is not going to be in any of the upcoming Season 3 episodes. If someone can confirm this, should he be taken off the Main Cast list?

I'm not sure where you heard that. --thedemonhog 06:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Rodrigo Santoro said this in an interview. Google search it. Paulo said that he's shooting his last scenes, and considering how few episodes he's been in so far, he's more of a recurring character than main. - Fallingx
Consider Mr. Eko. --thedemonhog 01:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
If you mean consider Paulo's status in relation to Eko's, Eko was a main character during Season Two. He had a few episodes where the flashback centered on him. Paulo has been in...3 scenes? Some of The Others have had far more screentime that he has, and they're "recurring." Since he isn't going to be on the show much longer apparently, he should only be recurring as well, not main. - Fallingx
I believe "main" character is determined by whether their name is in the opening credits (regardless of whether they appear or not). --Milo H Minderbinder 15:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Eko appeared in 3 episodes of season 3, yet he is starring becuase that it the way that he was credited. --thedemonhog 19:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Nikki and Paulo are now listed each week in ABC's guest stars for the show. I think it is time to move them from main characters to recurring. Tphi 15:19, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
I agree that they need to be moved to recurring. Aristoi 17:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

(Readjusting indent) That isn't true, in Flashes they were credited as main characters. -- Wikipedical 03:11, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Extended Episodes?

This article states that extended versions of the 3rd season episodes (shown thus far) were to be aired prior to the return of the series in February. Does anyone have a source for this claim (and did it ever happen)?

I don't know about them being aired on TV, but I know that on the website there is some American Express exclusive extended scene deal... That's the website though, not television.
Has there been any updates on whether or not we will see extended episodes or if they will be on DVD? Thanks, --164.107.222.23 04:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
It now appears that that information is false and I will remove it. --thedemonhog talkedits 03:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Sub plots

Why are there specific details of things happening in the list of "Major Subplots"? Kate and Sawyer having sex, finding a happy Jack at the Barracks, and blowing up a Dharma station (and a lot of the others listed) are not plots. They are events that happened in the story. An example of a subplot would be the continuing tension between Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. - Charleca 17:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I started the sub-plot section, but I now think that it is probably better to write it into the plot summary in prose, like at Lost (TV series) where we decided it was better to describe the characters in prose instead of in a list. I will be merging the sub-plots into the island plot summary soon. --thedemonhog talk contributions 01:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Remember this article is suppose to be a brief overview of the season (1-2 sentences per episode). These subplots really are more appropriately explained in each episode's article. Jtrost (T | C | #) 01:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Recurring characters

An editor has listed Artz and Cindy Chandler as recurring characters. This article is about season 3, not the series as a whole. The prerequisite for listing a character as recurring in a season page like this one should be a character who has been in the season at least 3 times. -- Wikipedical 00:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

There should be a section for one time characters like Ms. Hawking or Araca.DECBOY23 16:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)DECBOY23
You can find one-time characters in their episodes' pages. --thedemonhog talk contributions 23:13, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. A recurring character is a character which has appeared in more than 3 episodes in a series. The recurring characters listed on the season 3 page therefore list which recurring characters have appeared in season 3. That is why you do not see Kelvin Inman listed on this page, but you do see Marvin Candle and Edward Mars, for examples. -BaconLover 17:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
This is the season page, which is why Shannon is a special guest star and Ana Lucia is not listed. --thedemonhog talk contributions 21:43, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Time on the island

Didn't Juliet say in D.O.C. that the plane crashed 90 days ago, not 88? 4.84.10.224 16:59, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it was 80-something. - Charleca 17:02, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Just watched the episode, was 90 days.

Bakunin

Uhhh... just looking at a picture from DOC; Bakunin is wearing his eyepatch on the eye he always has... Blutpanzer 01:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Flashback plot summary

The flashbacks generally are specific to a certain character. Perhaps these could be moved to the character articles (which probably have more detail anyway) and this section be replaced with a table listed how many episodes & which episodes each character "had"? -- Chuq (talk) 13:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

The use of "ghetto"

Regarding these (1, 2]) reverts by Wootonius - replacing "ghetto area" with "economically depressed area" is a thoroughly ridiculous change. While "ghetto" might not be that accurate, it does describe the scene very well. The "economically depressed" version OTOH requires an explicit effort to convert it from a politically correct slang back into a human form. I am not against the change, but the suggested replacement is not good. Alex Pankratov 19:01, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm on board with different wording, however I thought "ghetto" being used as adjective rather than a noun (being that using that word as an adjective is typically considered slang) simply doesn't work for an encyclopedic article. Any suggestions of better phrasing? --Wootonius 19:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Meh...I guess the current wording is fine. "a ghetto" works where previously "a ghetto area" didn't. --Wootonius 19:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

"Ghetto" is here as a noun, as it is used in normal English. "Ghetto" as an adjective is slang, unless used to characterize a physical area as a ghetto, in which case its use as an adjective is ok. NOt standard English to say that someone's shirt is ghetto, or something like that. Tvoz |talk 21:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Flash forward date

This link give analysis of the LA Times article in the paper Jack reads on the plane, giving a date of around April 5th 2007, I'll add it into the article.

http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2007/05/la-times-newspaper.html

And FYI, in proper usage "ghetto" is a noun describing an area of a city where minorities have gathered to live together in communities to stave off discrimination, due to various socio-economic factors these always become rundown, depressed areas. The place Jack went to was clearly a Afro-American ghetto in LA - suggesting that the use of the word is somehow racist is absurd. However, its correct to change the usage from an adjective to a noun, for purposes of article formality.

newspaper clipping - no name is clearly discernible

I think it's ok (questionable, but probably ok) to link to the image of the clipping - although it's not verified as being legitimate, it is all over the web with the implication that it is legit. I'm not sure that is strong enough verification to have it here, but I didn't delete it. But - it is not at all clear or even close to clear what name is in the clipping as the body found, and therefore presumably the body in the coffin, and we don't really know that it refers to the coffin with certainty either. It may be John Lantham, in may be Jeremy Bentham, it may be any of an infinite number of possibilities. If this even is a legit enhanced screenshot, it has been deliberately obscured so that fans can't read all of the words - it may well be some character we have not met yet, or the real name of one we have, or who knows, this is Lost. So we cannot state in this article that it is any specific name - we can't predict the future. Tvoz |talk 21:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

  • We shouldn't include speculation or presumptions. -- Wikipedical 17:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Amount of days been on the island at end of season three

Shouldn't the amount of days been on the island and the date of which this is be added at the end of the article, as this is on season one and season two and is useful to know?

Jack's "flashforward"

We can't very well say that Jack's flashback in the finale is a flash-forward. Jack meets Kate, but he also tells the doctor to call his father down - who died in Sydney before the crash. There is evidence supporting both flashbacks and flashforwards, but we can't really tell either way at this point. I haven't changed the article, but thought I'd mention it. --Pohatu771 21:14, 1 June 2007 (EST)

I agree that we should be very careful in being definite about the 'flashforward'. Can we be sure that the flashforward isn't in a 'potential' future, rather than the actual one? Or that it isn't Jack's imagining? I also question, when Jack says "we have to go back" are we SURE that he is referring to the island? Does he (or Kate) actually say that? It's obvious that the writers want us to think that, but there have been plenty of times where they have tried to mislead us. Does anyone have a recording who is prepared to rewatch this for us? 199.71.183.2 15:00, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
The fact that he had countless maps of the South Pacific and scattered across his bedroom leads me to believe without a doubt that he is searching for the island. -- Wikipedical 23:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
It's a potential future (flashforward). If it were the actual future, the remaining 3 seasons would mostly be focusing on flashbacks of what happened between Jack talking on the sat phone and him being back on the mainland, and that doesn't make all that much sense to me. It's definately just a posibility; and I took the liberty to include that Jack's father is alive in that possible future. 89.136.42.26 20:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
We don't know that (and I disagree with you). --thedemonhog talkedits 23:35, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Jack could just be high on Oxycodone which is why he's referring to his father, or maybe something happened when he left the island to bring his father back to life. Anyway, I believe it has to be a 'flashforward' because the model of handphone he was using was not available before, so it can't be a flashback. 24 August 2007

Writers

This goes for Lost (season 1) and soon Lost (season 2) and List of Lost episodes, as well. So I like it better when it says "Damon Lindelof & J.J. Abrams" instead of "Story by Damon Lindelof, Teleplay by J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Compare. I feel that for further details, readers can visit the episode-specific pages. –thedemonhog talkeditsbox 03:55, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

  • The only problem is, if Javier Grillo-Marxuach only came up with the story for Born to Run, and Jeffrey Lieber pitched the Pilot, we would be giving them writing credits, which isn't accurate. I don't think it's a problem to list Story/Teleplay distinctions. For featured content, we should be as accurate as possible, while, yes, trying to stray from unnecessary detail for the individual episode articles. -- Wikipedical 15:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Colour

The quote box in the reception part is hard to read, or just not very visible. Could we make the writing white or something like that? (Wikirocks2 05:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC))

I changed the text to white. –thedemonhog talkedits 07:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Why does this have it's own article?

Why does this have it's own article but Squirtle and Patrick Star don't? Go to Lostopedia and make this article. 63.227.6.67 (talk) 00:13, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Squirtle and Patrick Star probably do not meet the notability guidelines. –thedemonhog talkedits 01:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Merger proposal

It has been discussed here and here about a section of the Lost DVD releases article being merged into this article. -- Matthew | talk | Contribs 06:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

No discussion here for a month. Oh, hey Matthew! *waves* Anyways, I think they should be merged into their respective articles. G'day. Gary King (talk) 00:48, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi there! I'd completely forgotten about this merger. I'm going to have to click on those link to remind myself what the outcome was.. -- αŁʰƏЩ @ 00:50, 29 March, 2008

Episode title

I'm not sure if this topic is being dealt with already, but I felt like the title for episode S3x01 (A Tale of Two Cities) was an obvious reference to the Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters, strengthened by the fact that ABC's recap site shows an image of the Korean couple to represent the episode. I'm not really active over here though, and wouldn't have much of a clue on the meanings of most of the other episode titles. Thoughts? - 222.2.131.152 (talk) 03:13, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

New sections go at the bottom of the page. "A Tale of Two Cities" is actually an even more obvious reference to the Charles Dickens novel A Tale of Two Cities. –thedemonhog talkedits 03:41, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Episodes

Is there any proof that episodes 2 and 3 were aired out of order? The ref is faulty and I seriously doubt the claim to be true. Corn.u.co.pia ŢĐЌ Disc.us.sion 07:04, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm fairly sure that reference is legit, it just got deleted by ABC. I can try and dig up another reference later.... Jackieboy87 (talk) 17:59, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
In September 2006, ABC Medianet announced that "Further Instructions" would air on October 11 and "The Glass Ballerina" would air on October 18. They later announced that they would be switched. According to "Watch with Kristin" or something like that (I do not have the link for this one), the visual effects team needed more time for "Further Instructions", i.e. the polar bears. Since, those two episodes do not have significant continuity between them, although "Further Instructions" takes place the day before, ABC aired them out of order, but has them in the correct order on their official website.thedemonhog talkedits 19:26, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
