1 million articles on French Wikipedia[edit]

The French version of this article, fr:Louis Babel, was the 1 millionth article on the French Wikipedia. JIP | Talk 13:50, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the record: As I've said at the French Village Pump, I am the creator of the French version of Louis Babel. I was editing Mount Babel, a peak dominating the Eye of Quebec. It's a long and violent story (210 million years in fact). A fellow user added a red link, I took it as a challenge and Louis Babel was "born" an hour later, at 00:54 (EDT) on 21 September, 2010. The existing English version of the article helped a lot, providing me with a picture (on Commons), a link to a useful reference and some ideas... and presto. At the time, I had no idea of creating a milestone. The article turned out fine and I went to sleep. Bouchecl (talk) 14:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations, then... It looks like the French article has now overtaken the English article in size so we could use some updating the other way...
I assume it is rather more difficult to pin a plaque to M. Babel than to a railway station, so you might not get quite the same discussions going on as the English millionth article. :-)  — Amakuru (talk) 07:49, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
