Father[edit]

Was there some friction between father and son? The fact of his middle name or initial never appearing in print may be unusual, but an annotation on his 1915 enlistment form is striking: alongside the "Next of kin" line, where he has entered "Frederick McCubbin, 42 Kensington Road, South Yarra" he wrote "The answer to this question shall not be construed as in the nature of a will".
