Proper Naming Convention for Cajuns[edit]

In regards to the naming conventions for the Cajuns, please see the consensus that has been reached (on the school's main athletic page) regarding the proper way to address the school. If there is a disagreement on the consensus, please discuss via the talk pages before reverting edits. Thanks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Louisiana%E2%80%93Lafayette_Ragin%27_CajunsPncomeaux (talk) 21:04, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ULL is ULL No one not affiliated will ULL refers to them as "Louisiana" or the "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns." They are widely identified as ULL, UL-Lafayette, Louisiana-Lafayette, etc. They can claim to be "UL" or "Louisiana" all they want, but that doesn't make it so. Remember that the State refused to allow them to be just "UL". That's why Northeast became ULM, so there would be two. TannerSpearman (talk) 21:59, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are very incorrect in your statements.

Again, this issue has been discussed ad nauseum here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Louisiana%E2%80%93Lafayette_Ragin%27_Cajuns

The consensus reached was that it would be acceptable to include 'often referred to by the nickname Louisiana or Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns....'

1. No where in any of these articles is anyone claiming or using the names 'University of Louisiana,' or 'UL,' which are the only names 'prohibited' the state. 2. The stand alone reference 'Louisiana' or 'Louisiana Ragin Cajuns' is perfectly legal and acceptable, is the school's official preference (as footnoted in my edit,' and is becoming more and more used and accepted by outside sources.

Please stop reverting acceptable edits for no reason.Pncomeaux (talk) 22:20, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Corkey: not sure why you feel another discussion on how to handle the name is needed, as this has been discussed a great deal on the main athletic page for the school. Why would the same compromise not be included on other articles that name the school? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pncomeaux (talkcontribs) 15:00, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And also, no I do not own this or any other article, and I am very well aware of that fact. Nor do the fans of LTU own it, or anyone else for that matter.Pncomeaux (talk) 15:04, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Uniforms[edit]

Could someone smarter than me please update the uniform pictures? Louisiana Tech introduced white helmets in 2014 and those are the current default helmets. Red helmets are still worn on occasion but the look has been updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TannerSpearman (talkcontribs) 02:19, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Overall Record Discussion[edit]

Hello all,

Recently I have noticed changes around the overall win-loss record of the program. Currently, the record listed matches the one listed on the site "Winsipedia," which is a database dedicated to compiling every FBS team's historical data year-by-year. However, after looking into the team's own record books, as well as looking through old news sources, I can safely say that Winsipedia is incorrect about Louisiana Tech's win-loss record. These are the inconsistencies I have found, with a link to a related news source:

1902:

Three games were recorded to have been played, but are not shown on Winsipedia.

- Vs. Monroe Athletic Association, W 6-5, https://www.newspapers.com/clip/80079016/industrial-school-football-team/

- Vs. Shreveport Athletic Association, L 0-35, https://www.newspapers.com/clip/80079117/ruston-was-an-easy-mark/

- Vs. Monroe Athletic Association, T 0-0, https://www.newspapers.com/clip/80079207/good-game-at-monroe/ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/81609905/the-monroe-news-star/

1903:

One game was recorded to have been played, but is not shown on the website.

- Vs. Monroe YMCA, W, 16-5, https://www.newspapers.com/clip/80079822/ruston-vs-monroe/

1909:

The “Picked Team” entry is not located in the 2022 Louisiana Tech Football Record Book, and I cannot find any other information online.

1925:

I found a record from a 1925 newspaper printed the day after the alleged Louisiana Tech-Centenary matchup. It states that ongoing matchups had stopped in 1923 but would resume in 1926, meaning the November 4, 1925 game could not have been played.

I just wanted to share this information to explain why the record differs from other sources. If anyone has any comments please feel free to share. Nointro225 (talk) 05:18, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Nointro225 Good morning! The current record is based on the official NCAA statbook. I'll add a citation in a bit. glman (talk) 15:19, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the explanation! I still think the official statbook is incorrect based on the sources I have, though I know I'm arguing over a couple of games from nearly a century ago, plus the NCAA would have better reasoning than I do. Nointro225 (talk) 18:13, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also wanted to ask, is there a source that breaks down the W/L record by season? I'm trying to break it down using a mix of the university's record book as well as what Winsipedia has, but I can't find the correct combination to get the same record as the NCAA. Nointro225 (talk) 18:55, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have not been able to find one, the university record book is a decent source. I generally do not rely on Winsipedia - it tends to have issues. glman (talk) 20:20, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I ended up finding this source that breaks down the official NCAA record: http://stats.ncaa.org/teams/history/MFB/366
However, the 1951 season is listed incorrectly, it should be 4-5 and not 5-4. I emailed the people in charge of stats but I doubt I'll ever hear anything back. Nointro225 (talk) 21:15, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch! I'll add a note. glman (talk) 21:21, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
