Comment[edit]

"Despite its supposed "war" on Irish republicanism, the LVF has only ever killed Catholic civilians and fellow loyalists."

Is that a fact or your opinion? They are undoubtedly ruthless terrorists but this comment is not NPOV.

Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) attacked Terrorists target (Dec. 27, 1997, Northern Ireland (UK)) Incident Date: Dec. 27, 1997

Terrorist Organization(s): Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF)

Target: Terrorists

City: Dungannon

Country: Northern Ireland (UK)

Region: Western Europe

Tactic: Assassination

Weapon: Firearms

Fatalities: 1

Injuries: 3

Description: The Loyalist Volunteer Forces (LVF) opened fire on the Glengannon Hotel in Dungannon specifically to kill doorman Seamus Dillon, a former Irish Republican Army (IRA) assassin who had spent more than 10 years in prison. The act was in response to the recent killing of LVF leader Billy Wright by the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). Three other people including a 14-year-old boy were injured.

Mind you, this doesn't say anything for the LVF's target-choosing either – the INLA and IRA are and were separate outfits altogether (and at times violent rivals).
Can we take the NPOV tag down? There's no dispute here that merits it. Surely we can just tinker with the wording of that sentence, and produce sources (CAIN for example). QuartierLatin 1968 15:30, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the flag?![edit]

That is DEFINITELY not the LVF flag. It is not the flag of ANY Loyalist organisation, though seems a messed around with adaptation of the UVF banner. Remove! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.189.150.195 (talk) 20:54, 17 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Yes, this is not that organisation's flag. See here for the right one (according to the BBC):

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39989000/jpg/_39989441_lvfflag203.jpg. I've added a "neutrality disputed" tag. Billsmith60 (talk) 17:12, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Full of well cited facts but badly written[edit]

The article needs a rewrite to make it more encyclopedic. Many of the sentences are too long, refer to many things and should be split out. Also some of the stuff in here is irrelevant and should be removed. I would do it, but I know too little about this subject. Perhaps someone who knows more can do it. --81.132.246.132 20:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terrorist designation by the US[edit]

The reference claiming that the US has designated the LVF a terrorist organization is dead, and I don't see the LVF on the current Foreign Terrorist Organizations list, which also includes delisted groups. This assertion, though plausible, should probably be removed if we can't find a working reference for it. --BDD (talk) 16:29, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Motto[edit]

The motto of the LVF is "Lead the way" which is commonly seen on it's flags and murals. Ulsternorthman (talk) 18:34, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

LVF "designated terrorist organisation" in USA[edit]

This Wikipedia page describes the LVF as a 'designated terrorist organisation' in the USA. This appears to be incorrect. The USA State Department appears to have 2 lists:

(i) Designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations https://www.state.gov/foreign-terrorist-organizations/

(ii) Individuals and Entities Designated by the State Department Under E.O. 13224 - https://www.state.gov/executive-order-13224/#state

The LVF falls into category (ii) and is therefore not a 'designated foreign terrorist organisation', but instead is an entity designated by the State Department. Further, the IRA pages do not include this in the little box. I included it on the PIRA for consistency but this was reverted. Therefore, for balance and consistency it should be excluded here also. TheSquareMile (talk) 14:55, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The United States' has multiple list regarding this issue in order to address various issues. The list you're referring too at (ii) is a mirror of the list maintained by the US Treasury Department. You're correct that the LVF is not currently designated a terrorist organization by inclusion on the US State Department's FTO list; however the LVF is a designated terrorist org included on the State Dept's TEL list: https://www.state.gov/terrorist-exclusion-list/. You were reverted when trying to add the box designation on the PIRA because doing so was not consistent as the PIRA does not appear on any of the above lists-the LVF is currently included on 2/3. Consistency is reflected in the leads of both the CIRA and the RIRA articles which note that these groups are designated terrorists by the US Government-a fact reflected in the above linked lists. If your sole objection is that the box is slightly different then by all means edits these pages accordingly. Since ROI does not actually maintain a list of designated terrorist orgs, for consistency I will remove that content from the lead section of this page. Adding the Motto[edit]

How can the LVF's motto be added to the info box? Ulsternorthman (talk) 19:38, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not possible. But it's seen on the flag Billsmith60 (talk) 22:06, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
