Citations? Encyclopedic? POV? (*head explodes)[edit]

"An example of the popularity of Xena: Warrior Princess is that Lawless is a universally recognized celebrity despite the fact that she has not had a major role outside of the television series."

Im clearing that one up. --FK65 20:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems pretty accurate to me. I for one have never seen her in anything else, and I'm suggesting that were it not for Xena: WP most people would never have heard of her, full stop. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that the character, Xena, is somewhat better known by name than the actress. Guv2006 (talk) 07:36, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Xena was so huge. she will never play another character that big. But she is amazing in Spartacus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.122.43 (talk) 19:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I definetely agree with that decision, it was a very unneccesary remark. Anyway, I think it'd be more appropriate for Lucy to have an agency photo on her page. I think this one is a nice photo, although small:

With regards to singing...[edit]

No mention of her brilliant impersonation of Stevie Nicks on SNL and other places? I would think this deserves a mention.

Non-notable singer[edit]

I've removed her from the category Actor-singer, as she is not notable as a singer. While she has sang on occasion. She is noted for her acting and not her singing.--NeilEvans 02:02, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

She can sing therefore she should be noted as one...they call rappers singers and they do anything but...too wit... Ryan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.25.169.106 (talk) 22:23, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She may be able to sing, but is not a singer. She can speak various languages - but isn't a linguist. She can play the violin - but isn't a violinist. The introduction description should state what she is known for. She is not known as a singer.

The statements that "After learning that opera required changes in her lifestyle she was not ready to make, she gave up on both and studied violin and jazz instead" and "university studies in opera and languages were abandoned after she decided that opera would mean compromising her own mantra of being the best she could at everything she tried" are contradictory, and the latter is too emotive and POV, and makes her appear arrogant and self-centred.Royalcourtier (talk) 05:48, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Killed Off"[edit]

This article states Lucy Lawless's character in Battlestar Galactica appeared to be killed off. This is a foolish statement because her character is a robot model of which there are hundreds of thousands. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alsantro (talkcontribs) 05:00, July 31, 2007

Supposedly all of them were boxed, but you're correct because boxing is not the same as death. She was put into cold storage. -- Noneofyourbusiness 22:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Futhermore it is confirmed that her character will return in the mid of season 4. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluerisk (talkcontribs) 06:07, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She can sing thefore I beleive she should be noted as one.... Ryan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.25.169.106 (talk) 22:20, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Funny Business[edit]

I added a comment about how she started out in the Comedy Troupe Funny Business but it has been removed because it's "unsourced". What makes it any less sourced than any of the other paragraphs on her career? It's in IMDb, I remember watching the show myself when it was first broadcast. What are the rules on sourcing information like that? GuanoLad 08:16, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An article or something like that is the standard, especially for less well-known information. IMDB is considered unreliable. -- Noneofyourbusiness 22:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External links rejection[edit]

I don't see what the problem was when I added a link that relates to Lucy Lawless? I've seen many other pages with a whole list of them (see the Buffy the vampire slayer page, for example). What is the difference? —Preceding unsigned comment added by P4poetic (talkcontribs) 01:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adult films?[edit]

I've heard several rumors that Lucy Lawless got her start doing adult films... but I can't find any sources for this... is there any evidence anywhere of truth or untruth of these rumors and if so, how can they be worked into the article? SirChuckB (talk) 08:47, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is only one other character named Xena (as far as I know) which first appeared in a female exploitation B-film named Beach Babes played by porn star Sarah Bellomo, 2 years before Xena: Warrior Princess aired. That would explain the 'Lucy Lawless used to do adult films' rumors. --p4 (talk) 07:43, 5 August 2008 (UTC)p4poetic--p4 (talk) 07:43, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure she did in the early nineties. Not xena, but under Lucy lawless. When xena first came out I recognised the actresses name from the adult channel. Just looking to see if it's true of an actress by a similar name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.254.235.33 (talk) 00:12, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flight of the Conchords[edit]

She played the character Paula in the eighth episode of the second season. Is this notable enough to be in the article?

Anonymous edit[edit]

This article was substantially rewritten by an anonymous user last year without discussion, but his revisions seen to have snuck through unchallenged. Any thoughts on restoring the lost material? Serendipodous 18:24, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK; I've restored the lost material and (I think) incorporated it with the article's modern state. Let me know if there's anything I missed. Serendipodous 05:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Roxy[edit]

"She made her onstage debut at the Roxy in Hollywood on January 13, 2007. Lawless was welcomed by a sold out crowd for back-to-back concerts." Big deal, I say. As the Roxy has a capacity of 450, I'd suggest it would be quite an achievement to not sell the place out. How many of the customers were ageing Xena fans and/or curious regulars, I wonder? Guv2006 (talk) 19:10, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's obvious from your comments , you don't like Lucy Lawless.

More Citations Needed[edit]

This article contains too many non-neutral, non-Encyclopedic statements of opinion, and not enough references from reliable news sources (rather than fan sites). Clean-up and more citations are needed to improve it overall. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycdi (talkcontribs) 22:42, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Singing career[edit]

I am not an expert on Lucy Lawless, but she didn't make her debut as a singer after appearing on Celebrity Duets. She has a background in musical theater, and was singing on Broadway in 1997. Maybe someone can add more details, but I made the basic change.KD Tries Again (talk) 20:11, 17 February 2010 (UTC)KD Tries Again[reply]

Spoilers[edit]

I was hoping to read a bit about Lucy Lawless, not get spoilers and irrelevant details about her character in Battlestar Galactica. Please have some kind of spoiler warning system, or just don't even mention spoilers, especially when they add no real content to a person's biography. thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.112.19.241 (talk) 04:26, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Astronomy Section doesn't really belong on this page[edit]

That section really has nothing to do with Lucy Lawless, proper, and should really be moved to the Xena article.24.190.34.219 (talk) 23:02, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

D.O.B.[edit]

1968. Has this been reliably sourced? I've always thought she looked several years older than the year specified, such as when she started Xena she was supposedly only 26 or 27, but look closer 35. Guv2006 (talk) 07:32, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Greenpeace1.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion (Bogus nomination)[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Greenpeace1.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

To take part in any discussion, or to review a more detailed deletion rationale please visit the relevant image page (File:Greenpeace1.jpg)

This is Bot placed notification, another user has nominated/tagged the image --CommonsNotificationBot (talk) 16:24, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is shocking. Both images Greenpeace1.jpg and Greenpeace2 have been deleted, and the user had NO RIGHT to do so.
1) I rang Greenpeace and they said I could use it
2) Greenpeace specifically mentions how pictures can be used in their copyright information, and Wikipedia is definitely included.
3) Greenpeace is in process of sending me a letter to confirm this.
4) Greenpeace wants to write to Wikipedia direct to give them blanket permission.
I am really upset about this. There are too many self appointed policemen around Wikipedia, who are doing it no good whatsoever.
Please do not delete this again!

Husbands????[edit]

Underneath the top photograph on the right-hand side of the page, it shows her spouse from 1988 to 1995 was Garth Lawless. However, under the section near the bottom titled "Personal Life" it says her spouse during that time period was Gordon Dawkins. Which one is correct? Or is there some explanation why one person had two different names?

Good spotting! Simple vandalism, now fixed. Snori (talk) 07:28, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
