Question about Cornelia Foss's Birth Date Correctness[edit]

I am interested in learning more about the Foss Family, and was confused a little by a recent article I read which conflicted with this wiki. I was reading in the New Yorker, July 23, 2007, on page 24, and it mentions that Cornelia said she was married as a very young teenager (it alludes to it being so young she will not say her exact age, as it would be embarassing, and gives an incident with her mother greeting her in the kitchen after her secret marriage, not having known where her child was all afternoon...). However, according to the birth and marriage dates on this wiki (the marriage date was the same in the New Yorker article), Cornelia would have been twenty at the time of her marriage, if she was indeed born in 1931. This makes no sense, as a 20 year old would surely have not needed a great deal of secrecy and need, as stated in the article cited above, "the American Ambassador's permission for the marriage," nor would she have been, as it continues, "very underage." I know that legally in some centuries past a woman was sometimes considered her parent's ward until she reached adulthood, meaning 21, but surely this was not the case in the 1950's? I just found that particularly interesting and strange, and will continue to research to find the actual date-- however, I thought whomever was in charge of this wiki would like to know there might be a discrepency. Thanks for all your hard work- because those of us in love with knowledge and interesting words and people benefit from your research and writing every day. -HB —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.31.113.92 (talk) 01:02, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
