Hughes 500 pics?[edit]

Why are Hughes 500 pics on this page? Simply, because I haven't found any MD 500/520/530 pics already posted on Wikipedia or Wiki Commons. Any pics of these would be welcome, as would clearer pics of the MD 600. Thanks. - BillCJ 17:27, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heli pics[edit]

BillCJ, here are the pics I promised. Sorry they're a litle dull (met-wise not subject-wise!) but, as you can see from the skies, I got rubbish weather everytime I went to Kemble to photograph helicopters. The airfield is about 20 miles from where I live. Just paste the code into any article you wish.

Civil / Military[edit]

Confused by the fact that the miltary version of the 500D (the 500MD Defender) is redirected to the OH-6 and described here. Some of the military customers on the OH-6 page actually have 500MDs and I would have expected them to be here (listing them on the OH-6 page look like they have a version of (or second-hand) US military versions. The redirect pages were in place before this article was created. We do need to decide where that variant should be covered, and be consistent.
We could put all military usage under Hughes H-6, regardless of model, and all civilian usage here, even for ex-military aircraft in civil service. That is the way I've been setting up the Bell huey spin-off pages (UH-1 Iroquois, Bell 204/205, Bell 212, and UH-1n Twin Huey]]). It was initially a bit confusing, but I think it's working out well.
The other way is to handle the Defenders as derivitives of the civil 500D/E, and keep them on this page. The H-6 page is basically set up no for the OH-6/MH-6/AH-6 versions as used by the Army, and a few export versions of those models. Adding the Defenders might not fit very well with the current arragnement there.
I don't really have a problem either way, but we need to pick one. The Defenders have been widely exported, and so deserve better coverage than we have now. I'll be trying to work on that whichever way we go. - BillCJ 18:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Bell civil/military split can be confusing as most non US customers do not uses the DoD designations. I would suggest that we spin of the Defender on its own - happy to help if there is a concensus. MilborneOne 18:37, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incidents section[edit]

I suggest that the Incidents section of this article should either be rewritten or removed. As it stands, the section describes one single incident (I've corrected the description based on info from the cited supporting source), while the NTSB database currently lists 153 MD-500 incidents (search here from 1/1/1962 to present). -- Boracay Bill (talk) 07:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concur. Typically, only notable incidents are included, with notability being demonstrated by the incident having an article of its own. Blackwater[edit]

Loop the loop by a helicopter[edit]

I remember the Hughes 500 test pilots routinely flying 'loop the loops' in Culver City. This was originally in the Hughes Aircraft article but is now gone. Might there be a home for this in this article? I could go back to the article history to resurrect the prose and insert it here. --Ancheta Wis (talk) 13:10, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really notable since the Kaman K-225 was recorded as performing loops as early as 1950. Either the rigid rotor or the fully-articulated rotor system is generally capable of aerobatic maneuvers as long as the structures can sustain the stresses. If it was purely for demonstration purposes, the Lockheed Model 286, in addition to the K-225 also performed loops. I don't think it would be a notable inclusion unless it was directly related to sales, or if it was a standard procedure for acceptance test flights of each aircraft. --Born2flie (talk) 20:17, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship to Hughes 369HS??[edit]

Operators[edit]

Im a bit confused here with the military operators section and the one of OH-6's. Wouldnt this be like the Bell 212/UH-1N split of civilians/militaries ? e.g. FAA used the civilian Hughes 369 (built in Argentina by RACA) which redirects here but are also listed in the OH-6 article and I think similar thing happens with other countries --Jor70 (talk) 00:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MD500 introduction and production dates[edit]

I'm a bit confused by the introduction and production dates listed in the infobox. Introduction date is stated as 1982 and production started in 1976, which is conflicting. The MD500 lineup consists of many models and this is where some confusion might have happened. 1982 is the specific introduction date for the MD500E and production of the MD500D started in 1976, but there have been models before these. The dates in the infobox have been there unchanged for many years but it might be a good idea to list the generic information for the entire model range. The Design and Development section does not list a very specific date for the introduction of the MD500, but it could have been as early as 1963 if the Model 369 is used as a baseline. --MadMarky (talk) 13:15, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

orthographical image(s)[edit]

A Hughes 500C with a Y-tail, and possibly 4 blades

I'm contesting this edit- BilCat you know better not to engage in edit warring, and I don't see the rational to adding a third orthographic image (OH-6 Cayuse) - It only cutters the section with no explanation (WP:IMAGEMOS). The OH-6 has 4 blades with a Y tail design, as opposed to (MD 500) 5 blades, and a T tail design. While the MD 500 was developed from the OH-6, I don't see the benefit for the reader. Should we muck up the other articles with additional orthographic views of the F-15, and the F-15E or the Eurocopter EC155 & the Eurocopter AS365 ??? - FOX 52 talk! 03:17, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
