How to disambiguate MS-DOS 4.0[edit]

In the index to Manes and Andrews' book (ISBN 0-385-42075-7), this is how they do it, under DOS on p. 520:

  • version 4 (IBM-developed successor to DOS 3.3)
  • version 4 (Microsoft multitasking version)

So, shortening those per WP:PRECISION:

I think it's fair to make the latter (this article) the primary topic because this product actually shipped to end-users. The IBM-developed version only made it as far as OEMs before Microsoft soon sent out a notice not to use that OAK (OEM adaption kit), and wait for the bug fixes in version 4.01.
